QUOTE(MyWifeCar @ Jun 10 2011, 03:16 PM)
Hi guys, been v11 already and I have no idea where to search for my query.

Here go,
My Huawei device GPON is way from my another router which I connect last time for streamyx using powerline network from TP-Link.

It seems that the Huawei device cannot use to dial-in for authentication, hence the powerline will not work.

I plan to do this:

Huawei-->powerline-->powerline-->router.

I wish to change the Huawei device or hack the default setting also can, any suggestion or link for more read-up?
TQ~

You should be able keep that setup? The homeplugs + router just need to support VLAN tags.

I think ASUS-RT-N56U very good.... better then mikrotik
*
I have the RT-N56U flashed with the latest Unifi build, it's setup as a secondary wifi AP next to my Mikrotik RB750G. You can't really compare the two. The Mikrotik is for power users who need complete control over their network down to the raw packet level.. and you need to team it with a wifi AP anyway. The RT-N56U is geared towards home users who want a powerful but all-in-one and easy to use replacement for the DIR-615 (inbuilt USB printer/filesharing/bittorrent and 128MB RAM for P2P).

I'm really impressed with the RT-N56U's dual wifi AP setup though, definitely one of the best wifi routers I've used so far and with ASUS giving us full Unifi support.. you don't have to hack it to make it work with Unifi.

Best setup IMO = RB750G + RT-N56U

But for me ASUS RT-N56U are enough for me, i'm not using in my company.
We using at home, end user, simply easy, user friendly.
But Marcotik the support not so good, you need to well know about macrotik, if not if you buy and don't know how to use, it's just a crape.
Unless Macrotik configure every rounter for their product and put wifi on it....

The Mikrotik is for power users -- you don't buy it if you don't know how to use it or don't want to learn how to configure it. They've already made it extremely easy to configure via the Winbox GUI. Its OS shares similarities with other power user/corporate user routers and they have a full forum for RouterOS support.

I received the ASUS as a test unit for the Unifi firmware and within 10 minutes I identified a global firmware exploit which you could use to remotely reset the admin user/pass and break into the unit (aka something like the DIR-615 remote config.bin vulnerability). The firmware on the ASUS is what you would expect from a consumer level router. Thankfully it was fixed in the latest release. I'm still writing a review of the unit but I'm waiting on ASUS to fix a few bugs with the firmware before I actually go out and recommend it as a permanent replacement for Unifi.

So I think you're comparing apples with oranges here.. no point talking about electrostatic/carbon pollution/health concerns, they're nearly identical and the ASUS has two wifi chipsets in it for crying out loud lol

---

It's really not a black and white decision. As you can see, I use both. The Routerboard gives me security & high performance routing while the ASUS handles my media sharing & wifi AP. I agree that if you're a home user who just does P2P/web browsing/gaming, the ASUS is more than enough for your needs. But there are some of us who want to load balance 2x VIP/BIZ lines, run servers from our homes or need a proper hardware firewall and this is where the Mikrotik does a way better job than the ASUS. I'm not saying one is better than the other, they're just geared for different audiences/purposes and when you use them together you get an amazing home network IMO.

1 noob question here.... RT-N56U is a dual band wireless router does it mean i can have both 2.4mhz n 5 mhz on at the same time or just 1 at a time.

I just got my Unifi installed last week. However, the internet connection needs about 20 min to connect, and the IPTV takes more than 30 min to watch.

Guru, is this normal?

As usual, nice & quick work to identify the security exploit  rclxms.gif
And glad that ASUS team is quick to response and patch it up !  biggrin.gif

Look forward for further detail review & test from you on this impressive RT-N56U !  flex.gif

I'm hoping to get it up by this weekend for the RT-N56U. ASUS team is fixing everything within 1-2 days. You found a good router for Unifi here tongue.gif

The shaping seems come and go.. It's still OK with me unless the capping more than half a day.

Could you run a longer test for around 12 hours? There seems to be a pattern with the 3 hours burst period -> 3 hours 1mbps cap -> 3 hours burst. It may be TM's new congestion avoidance system which would mean they're using a 2 hour+ sample window. Is your local traffic affected (speedtest.net) during the 1mbps period?

You mean the LAN1 light on the fiberhome? It blinks when there's data transfer over the wire, that's normal behavior.. unless you're saying it turns off completely for a couple of seconds despite the wire being plugged in.
