Have you tried asking TM's technical support about this?

No problems with MU and FS here. Downloads are flying as usual. Don't use the others so I wouldn't know.

Got back from work around 6:30PM yesterday (21 June) and found out that my internet is down. However VOIP and IPTV works fine.
I thought it's another case of 'connection hang' (where the system thinks you're still connected when you're actually not) that requires a connection reset from their end.. so I called the unifi tech support. Took forever for someone to pick up the phone. Upon further inspection the CS told me that there is actually no connection from my end, but the signal is okay and there seemed to be no problems. The guy asked me the usual; is this light on the modem, is that light blinking, etc. Told him everything appears to be normal, and that I'm only using my own router and the DIR615 as a vlan bridge. He didn't quite understand the meaning of that; he asked me if am I using TPLINK. I told him that I'm using another router. So he asked me to try with the DIR615 alone on default settings. Told him that I'd have to call him again since it's not a straightforward thing. So I configured the DIR615 to TM's stock setting (minus remote management) to use it as the main router and there's still no internet. The signal appears to be fine under Maintenance > System Check. Called the tech support again and this time it took like 20 mins for someone to pick up the phone, motherf***ing TM I tell you. The lady noticed that my unifi voip line is a bit noisy and asked me whether this just happened or what; I told her it's been like this since quite a while, I rarely use the line and I think it's my old aztech phone. Explained to the lady everything, again I was asked questions like am I using a TPLINK router, when I told her I'm using a Buffalo she asked how long have I been using it with the vlan bridge setup and asked to do standard things like re-entering my username and password.. lol. I told her that I've done all that. She said all this will be included in the report. I even told her what the log in the DIR615 says: QUOTE PPP: . Jan 1 02:14:07 PPP: Connection terminated. Jan 1 02:14:01 PPPoE: Received PADS for session1. (Session ID: 1d45) Jan 1 02:14:01 PPPoE: Sending PADR for session1. Jan 1 02:14:01 PPPoE: Received PADO for session1, from (mac address). Jan 1 02:14:01 PPPoE: Sending PADI for session1. This will repeat everytime the router tries to connect. As expected the CS doesn't understand the meaning of this. She finally said that the problem will be escalated to their network team. I also got a report number. Around 1 hour later I got a call from TM on my mobile. The first thing that the guy asked me is about the VOIP phone. He asked me to check because they have tweaked some settings from their end. I checked and true enough the noise is no longer there. The internet however is still down. I was told that they're still checking it from their end and they would call me to follow up. I went to bed and woke up around 2.30AM just now and yeah the connection is finally back up. Checked the log on the DIR615 and it appears the connection returned at 2:15AM. ![]() |

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I finally tasted the slowdowns with DD sites like fileserve and MU that many of you were complaining about, strangely after the above experience. When I got a call to confirm on the status of my internet, I asked the CS, what was the cause? He replied, "it's got to do with the settings of your fiberhome modem". They just fixed it remotely. For the record, I never messed with the fiberhome modem. Like I posted before, the speed was blazing fast as always right after they fixed it. The slowdown comes the day after. Looks like quite a number of cases of 'unifi internet down' nowadays.
I experienced this recently, and after connection is restored I encountered, for the first time, traffic shaping on DDL sites like MU and FS. |

QUOTE(klseet @ Jun 28 2011, 12:12 AM) Just grab a torrent to test: Can you try with DDL from megaupload and fileserve?[attachmentid=2299733] No slow down, no throttle, same IP for the past 3 days, still going ok ! Also tested the RT-N13U-B1 on HG655a VDSL2 in office since Friday until Monday morning, same IP also, no disconnect/reconnect issue. I used a KOSS UPS 800VA, last black-out happened few weeks ago, lasted about an hour, equipments connected are: - Huawei HG850a BTU - MikroTik RB750 - TP-Link 8 Port Gigabit Switch - Panasonic phone dect - Laptop fan |

QUOTE(klseet @ Jun 28 2011, 01:20 AM) Suddenly disconnect about 5mins & reconnect again Traffic shaping is now in place[attachmentid=2299834] Quickly grab another torrent & test [attachmentid=2299837] phew, still ok What's the link to test? I hardly download from MegaUpload & Fileserve, so just simply search and download this top3: [attachmentid=2299847] Noticed the speed vary between 100~180KB/s, is this normal? [attachmentid=2299854] speed really fluctuate that's why i still prefer torrents download ..... Used to get full speed from MU and FS all the time, now it's only during certain hours; normally 12AM and above. |

QUOTE(antonio @ Jun 30 2011, 01:59 AM) This might sound noobish and probably stupid, but I still wanna ask; meh you have not lurked in the unifi thread long enough.-Why do you guys decide to change the bundled with router (DIR-615)?? Because I really don't understand even after reading various version of this thread...I understand if the DIR-615 is dead and that you decide to get a new one as opposed to waiting for TM to send a replacement unit, but most replies I'd glance, there are some who swap their DIR-615 to TP-Link, Asus and even Mikrotik... What are the benefits (technically) and what makes you wanna change the DIR-615? My guess is (and I know it is probably not accurate) that probably the wireless function may be a little bit weak..but isn't most reputable brands have similar if not same amount of power in terms of the transmitter to be in accordance with health and safety bla bla bla, set by FCC or whatnot...unlike those 2W China/Taiwan USB antenna or signal amplifiers (which is not accordance to most country law or regulation I have been using Unifi since its free testing days (back in mid 2010) at the office (the DIR-615 is just behind my chair and have no problems whatsoever) and 5 days of using it at home....both my office and home are 5Mbps subscription and neither have been showing signs of the DIR-615 unable to provide me with 500kbps (or sometimes even more)... can someone elaborate or provide me with a link on the real reason WHY, some of the guys here swap the DIR-615 with other Wireless Routers? Is it speed? is it distribution of speed? is it range? is it temperature problem? is it power problem? is it the lack of antenna change? or just simple because it looks ugly and the ASUS U56 just looks astonishing?? let me try to walk you through some of the reasons 1. Wireless signal. The DIR615 is a mere 1.5dBi. The TL-WR841N/ND is 5dBi. Plus you can upgrade the antennas. The Asus N56U is also 5dBi (for 5GHz, 3.8dBi for 2.4GHz). Reports of those who changed say - No more wireless drop outs, no more messing with the 20Mhz/40Mhz channel width to see which one is suitable for some devices. 2. The DIR615 can only handle x amount (sorry can't recall the figures) of connections at once. There were cases of the router locking up during heavy torrent sessions. There is also a minimal, brief lag with the IPTV when switching channels. Those who changed to the Mikrotik reported that this lag is gone. 3. Weak QOS engine. 4. No gigabit support. Not everyone needs this of course. 5. Shit support from TM (like you briefly said, 'as opposed to waiting for TM to send a replacement unit...'). And then there's the security issue that was discovered by rizvanrp during the earlier days... which prompted a lot of users to jump ship by either using the DIR615 as a stupid vlan bridge or replacing it completely. BTW some batches of the DIR615 are shittier than the others, some issue with QC I reckon. At one time quite a few of these routers died just like that. I remember one user whose DIR615 had to be replaced a whopping 3 times. |

That is the GUI for his Mikrotik device, not just some software that can be used on any router..

When you say 'bad speeds', you're referring to DDL sites like fileserve and megaupload right?

Why don't you just keep the old number?
They don't force you to terminate the line. |

Well there's no additional monthly charge for the Unifi line. Which VIP package are you planning to get?

Staff price for unifi is no big secret:
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1902525 Besides the above thread, it was also mentioned every now and then in the main unifi thread, even during the early days. |
