Hmm, if that the case, it's most probably my problem. Shall diagnose it.

Unifi reserves around 8-12mbps for just 1 HDTV channel while Time's ASTRO IPTV service reserves 70mbps(another 30mbps for internet)

70mbps allows 2 simultaneous Beyond HD PVR to operate at once allowing upto 35mbps each.

Each PVR allows you to watch 1 channel while recording another 2 which means each channel stream takes up around 15mbps.

Good day sifu,

I'd just gotten the ViP10 package installed a couple of days back, not quite satisfied with the latency and overall performance of the DIR-615. Since you've stated that the TL-WR941ND is still not working smoothly with Unifi, I'm just seeking your advice on should I get the TL-WR841ND (as its 5dBi strength) - my house is big, need a stronger WiFi signal to reach upstairs for my sister's iPad/iPhones or should I get the TL-WR941ND (because of the 3x3MMO but 3dBi) and wait for official support from TP? My budget is below RM150... and I'm not doing anything fancy now, no home networking as of yet. I do hope you catch my drift... smile.gif Thank you!

I think you've mistaken, we are talking about IPTV through wireless, what I meant was previously I've tested by using 2 x TL-WR941ND trying to transmit IPTV wirelessly, the result still not smooth, not the internet! sweat.gif

I've been using TL-WR941ND (no custom UniFi firmware) as AP on RB750 since last year and there is no problem on internet & LAN. nod.gif
I have no idea whether TP-Link will release custom for UniFi, my guess may not since already have custom firmware on TL-WR841ND.
I would rather prefer them to do it on TL-WR1043ND.

Don't get too "excited" about the dBi thing, generally the higher means stronger, but wireless is always complicated and subject to many factors ....

If your house is big, you may consider repeater/bridging setup, or if you are particular about dBi and got budget constraint, may even consider this:

and your neighbour will hate you tongue.gif

Anywhere, take your time to evaluate and choose the right option base on your requirement+budget ! icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi guys,

I just got Unifi Biz 5 installed in my premises, with an Alcatel Lucent BTU. I purchased a TP-Link W8960N as well, after reading that it performed pretty well according to klseet.

However, I just can't get the darn thing to work. After hard-resetting the modem router and configuring it as instructed, it just won't connect to the internet. When I run a diagnostic in the router page it says my username and password doesn't match my isp's, despite the fact that I have double checked and triple checked my ppoe user name and password, with a @unifibiz username. Any insight on this?

P.S. It also says I am able to receive a PPP packet from the ISP, or something along those lines, so it can't be a connection problem right?

Try to enter the same user ID & password again on the stock DIR-615 and see whether it can connect or not.

I have no problem on my Huawei HG850a.

Hmm, I have no problems with the stock DIR-615 though. Could it be something to do with the BTU itself?

Added on June 19, 2011, 3:21 amHmm..it seems when I set the Vlan8021p to 0 instead of 1 as instructed I can connect to the internet. Any idea why?

Did you re-enter your user ID & password manually again on the DIR-615?

If yes and you are very sure all the setup is correct, then it might due to the BTU and/or TM exchange end at your area has some "unusual" behaviour, this will be very complicated, something like the previous TL-WR841ND on HG655a .......

Not sure whether other TD-W8960N has such issue?

Akakakaka..... yeah, my neighbours will probably kill me! smile.gif Really overkill woh!

Thank you for your precious advice... notworthy.gif Nah, I'm not a signal-strength-hard-up addict... coz the DIR-615's signal of 1.8dBi is a bit low for my taste.
I've already have the perfect setup in mind now... the TL-WR941ND + upgraded to 5dBi antennas would probably be good enough...
I'll just setup as per your instructions for the TL-WR-841ND in your website, correct? Cheers! thumbup.gif

Hey, any of you got numbers of contractors that can do the "concealed wiring"? (PM me)
Cos the lousy TM call centres said that the TM installers can do it, but then when they come here, they said they can't......
I won't blame them, I BLAME the call centre.....
(NOTE: I have faced their lousy call centre more than this once, I say I miss 100 days)

But then again, they promised me they (installers) will give a number for concealed wiring before I said bye bye to them...

(But I doubt they are going to call me back)

For me I'll definitely discard the DIR-615 due to it's lousy board+material used and buggy firmware, only TM will like it very much ..... doh.gif

Fyi, there is NO custom firmware for TL-WR941ND, you still need the following either bridging/managed switch:

Option A
- configure the DIR-615 as bridge per Rizvanrp's guide; ~or~
- get a vlan capable (3 digits) managed switch (eg, RB250GS)
[then setup PPPoE on the TL-WR941ND and connect WAN port to it will do]

Option B (my personal preference for this device)
- get a full gateway+router the like RB750/750G/750G
[then configure the TL-WR941ND as AP connect 1 of the LAN port to it will do]

If you still want the TL-WR941ND without any bridging/managed switch device in-between, then may consider to:
- flash with dd-wrt, create vlan2.500 tagging for internet only, but no IPTV!
Note: DO NOT use builts from Jan'11 (r16214) to Apr'11 (r16785), somehow those builts have vlan tagging issue.
The May'11 (r16994) seem to be ok, as well as Dec'10 (r15962) built.
The latest is June'11 (r17201), but I've tried yet, I guess should be ok.

If all the above sound complicated or you later decide go for all-in-one solution, then got 3 options:
TP-Link TL-WR841ND (need to flash custom firmware)
ASUS RT-N13U-B1 (need to flash custom firmware)
TP-Link TD-W8960N (stock firmware)

As I said, options are all out there already:
http://klseet.com/index.php?option=com_con...id=42&Itemid=39

Take your time to evaluate and choose the suitable solution based on your requirement+budget to fully enjoy your UniFi ! wink.gif

If they follow standard Streamyx policy that is 70-80% subscribed speed, then yea go ahead and complain.

EDIT: If I were you, i would do more test, then call even if they give me ~8.5Mbit....

Should ask for their entry point. Than hired ur own contractor to do the trunking. Most probably it's time consuming that's why they won't do it. They making more money setup Standard installation than do concealed wiring.
