yeah i agree, especially students, we don't have money to buy paper for our lecture notes...we got 'em from the lecturers via internet...in my case, the notes are long and full of pictures with high definition so that we can clearly...therefore, it exceed the 25MB limit that std email have...my mates and I rely heavily on the file sharing website

It was created for people like those in China to bypass China's internet great wall. That is even more hard to bypass than our own TM blocking which is just at DNS level.

There are no rules that state those file hosting sites are illegal, so how can anyone claim they are illegal?

This is an internet censorship that don't even have the law to back it up.

We have a bunch of mentally handicapped people up there running things
*
Agreed. In fact, the rules state the opposite.

They lied to the people. I've lost all trust in them already.

Oh, they're are they ever in for it. Incurring the wrath of the citizens when election time is so close is something only someone with sponge for brains will do.

Interesting column from thestar's B.K. Sidhu

QUOTE
But one phrase that keeps popping up is “freedom of information.'' The blocking of sites is seen as going against freedom of information even though it is part of the fight against piracy.
Over the past few days some businessmen in the country have received calls from their counterparts abroad asking if Malaysia was indeed coming on strong on censorship of the Internet.  Internet has become such a powerful tool for many people, be it for work, education, play and entertainment.
Sending the wrong message can of course trigger a lot of thoughts of safety to stability especially when we as a country need foreign direct investments.

Made sense, but not a very good article. Writer did not realize that the biggest problem is that much of the material is not available in the country at all, or that only inferior version of a material is available in the country, and material not coming in fast enough. For example, we were the last to get Survivor I, which is filmed in Malaysia itself. Singapore got to watch it days after it was released, we needed to wait over a month after Singapore's airing of the final episode before it started in Malaysia. Also, Futurama already entered season 6. TV3 only aired up to Season 5 and have shown no intention to pick up season 6. And did I mention that many shows aired in Malaysia apparently have the "PAL Speedup" problem? Which can be avoided by pulling the film up to NTSC first before pulling it back down to PAL? I come to realize this while watching VOD on UniFi and comparing it to a R1 DVD from my collection playing back at the same time.

And my last example, Mythbusters is only available in Malaysia in SD. People who want it in HD are given the finger since it Discovery HD is not available here- only Discovery World HD.

Education is not good enough. We also need to make the content that people want available in the country legally and at affordable prices, and at a timely manner. And do it properly.

Deprivation results only in anger.

Not to mention starting a series and then never continue or conclude it.
I'm still waiting for the last few seasons of Star Trek Voyager, Enterprise, the continuation of Chuck, Burn Notice etc.
Then also, you have shows like Two and a Half Men that's screened at 1.30AM and yet so censored that some episodes aren't funny anymore.

So, what solution but to download?

TV3 got screen Season 5 of Futurama??
I only watched the original 4 seasons.

Wait, you're right. I mistook Season 4 for Season 5. My bad. Season 5 only received overpriced DVD releases, which are one year late no less. they also skipped episodes (iirc they skipped "Three Hundred Big Boys", which judging from the Wikipedia article, has nothing offensive in it at all)

But yes, i forgot to put that in too. They start a series and never continue or conclude it- that is one of my biggest gripes along with the random censoring. I have a long list of shows not concluded or followed up, most of the cartoons on my list has been uploaded to TVTropes under "Screwed By The Network". In fact, I've seen shows that are butchered until it made absolutely no sense at all. I like to use the Rugrats "Zoo Story" episode for that example. NTV7 chopped off scenes in that episode until it is meaningless. And what was cut? cartoon images of pigs. Since when is pigs illegal to show on TV, considering that at the time the news was about JE and the news keeps showing images of pig farms and pigs? As to how I know it was pigs, the episode was later aired uncut on Astro. Also, I was a member of a Rugrats fansite and read the full episode synopsis.

@RAMChYLD, Let's not forget TV3's butchering of film to fit a two hour film into a two hour movie slot with advertisements.

ps. Futurama's back!

It's on Assteruk sad.gif

I refuse to sign back up until they bring in the channel I've been asking for for the last three years, and bring back BBC Entertainment. I already made it clear to them: no Doctor Who and Red Dwarf, no talk!

QUOTE(lukchardhsl @ Jun 18 2011, 09:04 AM)
The problem with our country is our government. We are actually in recession and out inflation rate is high and is steadily increasing. It pisses me off so badly that the government is lying to us that our country's economy is good. Yet, with all these circumstances they are still being corrupt and eating money left and right without doing anything about it.

Isn't the government about the people and not the administrators? Didn't Abraham Lincoln said the government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from Earth? Moreover, they government don't seem to bother finding out why people download.

People download because its free. Why do Malaysians like free stuffs? Because our economy bad la. No money to makan, pay rent, harga petrol naik, milk powder and harga electricity also naik. The price of things are steadily rising while the people's salary are still the same. People are already finding a hard time earning money.

Do you think Malaysians would pay for entertainment when they can get it for free given the circumstances? The government should consider this before they do stupid decisions like this and everyday minum duit kopi. It's really disgusting to see that these are the people ruling our country.
