With no untethered iOS 5 jailbreak and no jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2, many are using iOS 5 settings shortcuts to quickly access iPhone and ipad settings without any need of a jailbreak. Designer Jeff Broderick has created some beautiful icons with pre-made shortcuts to your iPhone iOS 5 settings.
Here's is how it works:

1. Simply point your mobile Safari to: brdrck.me/settings;
2. Tap on the desired Settings icon you want to add to your iPhone home screen;
3. Now choose to Install Shortcut.

If you have no SHSH there is point talking about downgrade/upgrade.

Unfortunately for 3G iPads even with SHSH you can't downgrade from ioS 5.

hi, according to your sig, ios5 is jailbroken untethered for ipad 2?

Joelles, I'm in the same situation as you were. Had my 4.3.3 SHSH with my 1st iPad 2 but when I sent it in for warranty, they replaced it with a new unit (still on 4.3.3) but during 4.3.5 signing window. So I'm on 4.3.3 without any SHSH so if anything happens, I'm pretty much stuck and will probably be using the same shortcut methods as you are now using.

The 5 exploit that p0sixninja found in IOS5 beta has been closed by Apple (greenpois0n.com) and it's looking like Apple has won the war. The unthetered JB for iPad 2 iPhone 4s on iOS5 ain't happening anytime soon.

I guess if you don't mess around with the root files you'll be safe with your 4.3.3 on your iPad 2. I heard MuscleNerd has join Apple as well, so jailbreaking for iPad 2 and iPhone 4S will be slim for the future unless theres a new hacker who have the talent like Comex and MuscleNerd.

4.3.5 doesn't serve any purpose. Just upgrade to 5.0.1

Yes, it's confirm that Apple have stop signing for iOS 5.0, your only choice is iOS 5.0.1.

Don't use the restoration method, just use the direct update method through iTunes in your pc or Mac and it will work.

Did the iTunes completely download the FW or it stuck in the middle with the 3194 error? If it finish downloading the .ipsw file but still gives you the same error, try restart your iTunes and changer to another USB port.

Ok, this is what I found, if you still encounter the same problem try this:

To fix error 3194....
The new host you added Into the host file needs to be at the TOP
Make sure your host file looks like this:

They need to add it at the top because itunes doesnt realize that there are more than one hosts. It only checks one host and gives you an error such as 3194 or 94. You will need to put the host you added in at the top!!!
like this:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com <<< this one needs to be at the top if you have more than one!

In your system drive, go to window/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
Open the hosts file with notepad and saved it once you finish editing the IP.

@shark,
just put it on top of the others and give it a try, don't delete anything.
