hurm~ so no prob in gingerbread? well i heard form a lot of vendors saying dun swtich to gingerbread use froyo~ of cz sgs2 is the one i want but i dun want to spend too much on phone~ nexus s looks good but htc is kinda err too big to fin in my pocket 4.3 inch >.< .. the 4 inch samsung g s is nice ~

yeah i agree with u on that in term of specs it will last longer~ well no matter .. i wasn't looking for the best phones~ but since my budget is around 1.5 k thats why my eyes are on sgs~

"if u are looking for a phone that works flawlessly out of box, then take off galaxy S from your mind." wad do u mean by this? care to explain?
*
the sgs has it's share of problems. some ppl report lagginess with the touchwiz UI, some have problems with gps and most don't like the touchwiz layout. the beauty of android is that u can actually fix or change all of this with help from the online community. and the online community is really big. also...this is not really the best place to be asking about nexus and desire etc because we can only really tell u about the galaxy s...i suggest u look in the desire or nexus threads for more help on those phones smile.gif

owh so i need to use custom roms? name a few pls XD all i know is odin (kies is the original ones rite?)
i think its running on eclair 2.1.. my symbian^3 device also hard to lock on to satellite -,- zz~ so all i need is mods it a lil?
yeah ^^.. heh~ too much thread to read >.< thats why i was asking~ heh >.< sry XD ... since sgs have v18 thread that means it must be really good..
sure i'll ask all the sifus here ^^
oh yeah touch wiz 3.0 and 4.0 ? some say they are good some say they aren't
*
Like the others mentioned...it's not really necessary to use a custom rom...i'm using stock gingerbread firmware and I like it. I've also used custom ROMs before and I liked them too. It's a matter of preference. I don't really mind the touchwiz UI, i've become quite used to it. You should really read the first post of v18 or v17...there's a lot of info there that can help you.

So is my phone defective I ask?  Physical damage I don't see any .  Hardware wise there is no denying SGS is great with its beautiful Super AMOLED screen but oversaturated and inaccurate colors.

Regarding my GPS, I manage to get my GPS working in Froyo but since I switch to Gb, it have no luck getting any lock on.  So is my GPS hardware broken?  If it is, then why does it work in froyo 2.2.1?

So my SGS can do all the tweaks imaginable and I like that.

But imagine I got a very important appointment tomorrow which i cannot miss.  So before I go to bed, i must remember to set my alarm.  Alarm I set but it never ring the next day!  Why because my SGS was out of juice when I was deep asleep, but how can that be?  I have a 50% charge left when I go to bed.  So I miss the appointment and can only live to regret it.

Then I charge my phone  night before so i have a full charge the next day.  Brought my lovely wife and kids out for shopping and movies etc.  Was expecting a very important call from an oversea client.  It was 3 pm in the afternoon and I hardly use my phone but it only got 10% juice left.  But I am expecting a call from my client and he hasn't call yet.  So I cut short my family outing and head back home to charge my bat?  Home is a least 90 minutes in this heavy traffic so do I have enough juice left?

The moral of this story is that we can do whatever tweak we can on our SGS but at the end of the day, it has to do what it is suppose to do.  And not give us any hustle doing it.  I just want a peace of mind.

Now I know what iphone user meant by "It Just Work"

Stop ranting and do something about it...gosh...u sound just like holypredator with his gps issues...the gurus here will help if u need help, but ask them nicely. and dude, for the last time shove ur iphone comparisons where the sun don't shine. everyone has these problems. and there are fixes. if ur patient enough, the sgs is a superphone...it's in it's own category.

There is a way you can have the best of both worlds. For eg. I m on stock Froyo for 2 and a half weeks already coz I need stability for my daily works. A working smartphone without all the fancy themes and features. When i am free or my daily works not that demanding anymore, I will flash to a custom ROM, use it and if it is stable enough, I will continue to use it.

When I need to go for oversea assignment and I feel that the custom ROM is not that reliable, I will flash back to stock Froyo before I go, that is my stable base which is always reliable.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
well put...I think most forumers here will agree that the above response pretty much sums up android...you can do anything you want with the phone. that's why it appeals to so many people. but the iphone appeals to a different demographic because it's simple and without frills. you don't need to worry about what rom suits you because let's face it, you can't really flash anything anyway; so yeah, describing iphone as a walled garden hits the nail on the head.

but that's beside the point. this is not the place for iphone vs sgs.

I can confirm its not that 3 files that cause the drain.  I have already delete the files and it still happens.
*
Go back to 2.2.1. I don't notice much difference between 2.3.3 and 2.2.1 unless I'm mistaken. Until this problem is solved 2.2.1 will serve u well.

silentser & ken2291, thanks for the info guys. Great to hear Samsung has great supports/updates to the Android OS, I'm considering this phone and HTC Wildfire S. For now my mind is slightly set on SGS. Fingers crossed.
*
Even if the support is not from Samsung, the community support is very large; take this thread for example, we're already in v18. Chances are you'll be able to find help and support in lowyat forums or xdadeveloper forums.

The big difference is if you've GPS lock-in problem previously.
By changing to 2.3.3, your GPS lock-in problem is history.  tongue.gif

Could be loose usb cable connection too. Take out battery and try again. This time don't touch your laptop/pc, cable and phone after you click start in odin.

Yeah don't panic. Try again. Here, this is the flashing procedure for Froyo DXJPE. Don't worry, there's not much difference in the procedure for flashing gingerbread. The only difference is if ur using a .pit file, make sure u put that .pit file in when flashing and click on repartition.

DON'T PANIC. This happens sometimes when there is a USB connection error.

First disconnect the USB cable from your phone.
Next shutdown your phone, by either: Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds. The phone will power off. If it does not, just take out the battery and put it back in.

that's because u r in Android thread.. that's normal. just like when u're supporting Arsenal in Man U thread... just ignore and dont be too defensive..

I've had an Ipod and I currently have an SGS. I've used ITunes on the Ipod and Itunes to sync music to my SGS as well. I've also used winamp to wirelessly sync music to my android device. I know you can't sync music wirelessly over ITunes...unless they've changed that. My opinion is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. We had this exact same discussion about Apple vs Android tens of pages ago started by the same guy who started this argument again. Can't we just agree to disagree and continue discussing more productive stuff? Like how we helped darkz88 solve his flashing problem? Btw lightning69, hows ur GPS issue?

I think you have the cell standby problem just like mine.  Should be ok after you recharge.
*
I have cell standby at around 60% which I guess is pretty high. I normally finish charging my phone just before bed every night, so I leave my phone on. My battery only drops around 5% overnight. I'm on 2.3.3 JV9. Does the standby bug only hit if I haven't charged the phone? Meaning do I see the drop at around 70% battery only?

could it be a battery synchronization problem? Normally you're advised to have 100% battery for flashing new ROM for sync purposes. I've experienced the battery incorrectly showing high battery values when I'm pretty sure my battery was low. This happened to me after flashing Darky's 9.1 or something a long time back.

Eh any1 has any idea why when I apply JV9 csc to JVP and after *#272 etc. I don't see MIS (Maxis) sales code? CCM and DGI is there though.
*
As long as got XME sales code u should be ok. MIS, CCM and DGI are specialty codes meant for when u purchase the phone from Maxis etc. In reality there isn't any difference between them and XME.
