Saw this in XDA and thought it was interesting to share...

SGS vs Iphone 4 Battery/Benchmarks

I have recently acquired an Iphone 4 to go along with my galaxy S, time to do some comparisons!

Iphone 4: 4.3.3
SGS: CM7 #16

Battery Life

Standby time (8 hours)
------------------------------Iphone 4----------SGS
2G only:-------------------------0%------------2-5%
Wifi & gmail Push:---------------1-3%-----------3-8%
Internet use, per hour
(50% brightness)
------------------------------Iphone 4----------SGS
Wifi:----------------------------10%------------25%
3G:-----------------------------15-20%-------30-35%

Video Playback, per hour
(Standard Definition, 50% brightness)
-------------------------------Iphone 4---------SGS
---------------------------------10%-----------20-25%

Video Playback, per hour
(720p Software Decode on Both Phones, 50% brightness) <-- VERY DEMANDING
-------------------------------Iphone 4---------SGS
---------------------------------31%-----------49%

Screen On Idle, per hour
(aeroplane mode on, BLACK screen, 50% brightness)
-------------------------------Iphone 4---------SGS
---------------------------------4%-------------9%
Considering this was on a black screen (AMOLED supposedly drains 0% on black) the SGS should have outperformed the IP4 easily. Did not happen...

Screen On Idle, per hour
(aeroplane mode on, WHITE screen, 50% brightness)
-------------------------------Iphone 4---------SGS
---------------------------------6%-------------25%

Wifi Radio Stream, per hour
-------------------------------Iphone 4---------SGS
---------------------------------8%-----------10-11% (pretty good)

Overall, the IPhone 4's battery at least doubles the SGS's which is very impressive. You genuinely do get 10 hours usage out of it browsing and playing games which is much better than the 4 hours or so on the galaxy s.
Yes i understand CM7 is still beta software and the idle (and 3g) drain isn't as good as samsung rom's but the screen-on drain is about the same.

Benchmarks
V8
------------------------------Iphone 4----------SGS
--------------------------------N/A-------------500 !
Browsermark
------------------------------Iphone 4----------SGS
--------------------------------38K-------------49K !

The Galaxy S actually benches higher due to the Iphone 4 being only 750mhz, for web browsing i would say the Galaxy S is faster.

Responsiveness
The Iphone 4's touch screen cant be beat, it just doesn't have the delay or hiccups that android phones do, the animations are also very smooth.
However IOS isn't without it's flaws, it does lag occasionally in the settings page and while web browsing.

I have had my Galaxy S for a year now, and after using the Iphone 4 for about a week i can see what Apple fans mean when they say 'it just works'.
If only it didn't costs £500

So Apple fan can brag about their phone "It just Works"

So maybe here is what the SGS fan have to say....

It Might Work if....
1. You know to upgrade the firmware to custom and do lots of tweak.
2. you apply GPS fix such as Fasterfix, GPS Aids etc or send back to Samsung for a repair.
3. you remove your battery for 30 minutes and put it back and reboot it hoping that the OS bug will not strike again.
4. etc
*
feel sorry for you...i guess your the unlucky one...i think you should stick to 2.2.1 until this problem is fix...my feeling this problem will be solved in next update 2.3.4...my feeling only...not that samsung will heard my feeling..hehehe...

FYI..i'm using deodexed dxjv9 and still this battery drain happened to..what i do is rename the 3 services that some said caused this problem...and regularly checked the battery use..if the android os showed higher percentage over time..i will reboot m3y phone...so far so good...

another ultimate solution...ditch the SGS and buy iphone4 that just works out of box OR SGSII that samsung completely polished..IMHO... brows.gif brows.gif

Hi all,

Wanna get your opinion and expertise. I have a stock SGS running 2.3.3 (JV9) and have rooted it using FuguRoot. So I was wondering if there is a lagfix that I can install on top of this? Also, I want to keep it as stock as possible.

Your feedbacks are much appreciated.

flash speedmod kernel k15h-t4 and change the filesystem to EXT4...your phone will blazing fast!!!

Oh...so the deodexed dxjv9 also got the bat drain shit.  Could it be the kernel?  What kernel you using?  I was on Dark Core 2.5 but yesterday I flash back to Dark Core 2.4 because 2.5 mess up the front camera.

I won't be changing my phone anytime soon but will be getting another smart phone for my wife.  No more Samsung whether its SGS2 or 3.  It will be iphone 5 because it just works.  biggrin.gif
*
i think the problem was not caused by the kernel..i think it is because of the gingerbread rom itself....i'm using speedmod...i think you should stick to 2.2.1 roms until this problem solve by samsung..

good to hear that you will ditch samslung for your next phone...less headache i would say...biggrin.gif

Oh Man! I've updated to official Gingerbread using KIES and now my battery sux big time. Used to only drop not more than 5% if left overnight in Flight mode. Now from full charge dropped to 69% in flight mode. Even ultimate juice can't help..Please comment.
*
i think your phone have been hit by android os bug....please check your battery use...check whether androis os consumed a lot of battery use percentage..

if so...rename the 3 process below :

syncmldm.apk
syncmlds.apk
wssyncmlnps.apk

eg : syncmldm.apk ----> syncmldm.apk.bak

thus, you need to root and install root manager or titanium backup..GL GL

Oh man...My Android OS takes up 51% of the battery..

How to root it without flashing the original 2.3.3?
*
use FuguRoot..or flash to latest speedmod...

fyi..even the stock 2.3.3 got this bug...it is a common bug for GB 2.3.3...

another solution...flash to the latest stock 2.3.4......it's up on XDA

mr alucard sama,

as i told you before...even the stock 2.3.3 got the battery bug no matter where you got it...my suggestion is..download the 2.3.4 and flash it thru Odin or CWM...and your battery bug will fly away... rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

I get less than 30 seconds cold fix on my stock froyo GPS before. That is I turn on the 3G data, turn on the GPS monitor (download from market) and viola..it locks in less than 14 seconds (sometimes). Then I turn it off and just run Papago X5 and magically it locks in few seconds. But you must turn on the 'use wireless networks' in settings - location and security. I know it consumes data, but I'm on data package so I'm ok. Will try not using the data for GPS fix tomorrow.

Surprisingly, now my Android OS and System is less than 6% each. I'm still on stock 2.3.3 which I updated on Tuesday...Let's see how it performs tonight on 'FLIGHT' mode..
*
6% for android os is consider bad my friend...

tonight before you sleep..plase reboot your phone and don't turn the flight mode on...see the result tommorrow and report back...

You mean, flight mode consumes more battery??

Oh man...at least 6% is better than my previous 27-31% (dang)... What should be the good consumption? I'm still thinking whether I should flash to 2.3.4 as I have just finished downloading it..
*
no...flight mode is to stop the services regarding the signal and connectivity...the android os bug is caused by something else..what i meant is if you turn on flight mode while android os still accumulating in background..you still got your phone dead in the morning...

the temporary solution for this android os bug...like i said before in previous post...freeze those 3 services or reboot your phone when your see your android os percentage increase...

according to xda...2.3.4 seem to solved this battery bug completely thus many still testing this rom for concrete result...hope you understand my explanation biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Funny. Still fail to flash to Gingerbread, JVH, JVK, JV9, JVP and even EZbase3.0. The password screen comes out and there is no way to bypass it.

So I flash to XWJSD and it is ok.  rclxub.gif

i tot this problem is solved already...huhu
