QUOTE(axsk8er @ Jun 8 2011, 04:04 PM) owh so i need to use custom roms? name a few pls XD all i know is odin (kies is the original ones rite?) Running custom ROM and kernel is totally optional. Most of us here, when got the phone will run stock first and majority switch over to custom ROM after that. The 2.1 is totally not up to par, stock running 2.2.1 and above is considered acceptable.i think its running on eclair 2.1.. my symbian^3 device also hard to lock on to satellite -,- zz~ so all i need is mods it a lil? yeah ^^.. heh~ too much thread to read >.< thats why i was asking~ heh >.< sry XD ... sinec sgs have v18 thread that means it must be really good.. sure i'll ask all the sifus here ^^ oh yeah touch wiz 3.0 and 4.0 ? some say they are good some say they aren't Odin is the flashing programs whereas Kies is the Samsung sync program which has the ability to upgrade (one way only) the firmware not like Odin. About Touchwiz, it is depend on user actually. Some may like and others will replace it with other third party launcher like ADW, Launcher Pro, Go Launcher etc. It is not something that is disastrous to have it. |

Like the others mentioned...it's not really necessary to use a custom rom...i'm using stock gingerbread firmware and I like it. I've also used custom ROMs before and I liked them too. It's a matter of preference. I don't really mind the touchwiz UI, i've become quite used to it. You should really read the first post of v18 or v17...there's a lot of info there that can help you.i think its running on eclair 2.1.. my symbian^3 device also hard to lock on to satellite -,- zz~ so all i need is mods it a lil? yeah ^^.. heh~ too much thread to read >.< thats why i was asking~ heh >.< sry XD ... since sgs have v18 thread that means it must be really good.. sure i'll ask all the sifus here ^^ oh yeah touch wiz 3.0 and 4.0 ? some say they are good some say they aren't |

QUOTE(lightning69 @ Jun 8 2011, 12:21 PM) I try to change my product code to XME but cannot. It won't let me input. So I try copy and paste in but cannot install and then crash. could explain the step you take to change your product code? i did it this about last week using gingerbread and its all good CHANGING PRODUCT CODE WILL FACTORY RESET/WIPE YOUR PHONE, I REPEAT, WILL FACTORY RESET/WIPE YOUR PHONE the correct step should be: 1. check if the CSC you flash to the phone have XME code or not. to check *#272*IMEI# , there should be a box on top showing current product code and a list of available product code below A. if no go to step 2, and you need to have root explorer or any other apps that explore the system folder B. if yes go to step 5 2. download XME from here, and extract the .zip 3. MAKE SURE THE FOLDER STRUCTURE THAT YOU JUST EXTRACT IS LIKE THIS XME/system/... NOT like this XME/XME/system/... 4. copy the XME FOLDER, yes the folder, not the content of the folder, copy the XME folder to system/csc 5. dial *#272*IMEI# , you should see a box on top showing current product code of your phone, and a list of available product code below it, beside each of the code is a round box, press it and it will be green, then press install. that it...
