Awesome marketing. They did a good job on the video really, somehow connecting each of their update in a string of strange connection which makes it looks awesome. I guess educating user on what's possible sells because even though some of the things they introduced were already there for years, many are unaware or simply too afraid to try something else. This is one of the reason why new tech pickup is rather slow on the conservative region of Asia.

i would say, iOS5 have answer to Steve vision 14 years ago.
Shift to could service. Apple team must be spending alot effort shifting everything to there, creating a solid platform to starts with. Apple just got it's data centre build and get it running, sure just changing up to what Google did.

Google has better and earlier lead over cloud stuff, because this is what they do. Both customer are different in culture, Apple creates both hardware and software, but Google concentrates on soft stuff more.

to me, Apple has shift both OS they are famous of into much better fundamental for next generation. iOS is shown Apple vision of proper Post-PC; while OS X Lion has once again better computer platform. Both of them talk to each other more than before with iCloud thing. iOS 5 is on Par from what google able to offer now.

I can see Microsoft has some road to catch after sneak peak Windows 8 has released. What google need to do is, talk to developers and publishers alot more. A lot services of Google was ending in bad shape and they dont work close enough with publisher.

If you have a house full of Apple gadgets, you will be rejoicing cos all of a sudden, it went from unrelated to all connected.

But if you have just a piece of the Apple, its really nothing new, or was there something I missed out?

Well, don't take it too seriously lor. Besides, this thread is supposed to discuss about iOS 5 and not about Office app support. Do you seriously think Apple gonna make anything that's compatible with other? laugh.gif

question about imessage. say i have a friend with iOS 5, but he turn off his data. when i text him, will it be a normal SMS (so he will receive) or imessage (he wont receive until data turn on)?
*
I think you already answer your own question. It's based on your AppleID. Apple already specify that iMessage is to break carrier dominance for SMS.

BTW, just came across a forum discussing this query. One of them point out that iMessage will check if the user is online before providing you with the option to send via iMessage, otherwise it will be normal SMS.

Did u read my quote 1st? and i did mention NORMAL SMS....

Sorry, type too fast.

Anyway, why you wanna mix SMS with iMessage? Already said only available among iDevice that support iOS 5. If the recipient is not using iDevice or using iDevice that are not compatible, it won't even allow you to use iMessage at all.

SMS and iMessage is mixed together in the same app on iOS5. How you differentiate between both is looking at the title and colour of the Send button. That is for iPhone only. On others, you can only send through WiFi and I'm guessing that it will hold your message and sent it in background when you have WiFi.

Are you sure? It already state it will checked whether or not the recipient is online before iMessage is used. If you don't have connection, how to check status?
