Hi all,

Basically the titles says it all. Im rather new at all these modding stuff. How do I use cooling fans for external purposes without having to connect to the PSU (please forgive me for the lousy term, not sure what its called) for power??

Thx a lot =D .. Really much appreciate the help.

connect either 2 of the wires to a power source. usually the middle wire serves the purpose of fan speed sensor

This is why it's important to learn the correct terminology. The CPU is the processor, not the whole PC. So when you say "CPU fan", you have to be sure you're not referring to any fan other than the one that sits on top of your processor's heatsink.

i have no idea actually.. u will need to use the psu .. or maybe u can use the usb to power up your fan. but it will be very low laa. as th usb only powered with 5v iinm. u cannot use the wall plug to pwer the fans as it will only burn your fan. i guess u will ned a second psu or just power it by usb

There are fans that runs on 240VAC, means can plug into wall plugs directly, but I don't know why you don't want to plug into PSU, you can still plug into motherboard fan connector. Though for long term usage, I still recommend to use PSU to power up the fans since if you seperate the power means you have to turn on and off manually.
