maybe due to the difference in the surface material between the mamba and the DA.

i dont think the cataclysm mouse have peeling issues... coz the top surface is plastic with metallic finish..... no rubber sighted.... unless you talking about the sides....
*
the peeling issue i meant isnt the rubber peeling.

but like where the metallic finish paint worns out easily lol.

sorry for the misleading. xD

Well guess its a give and take, since u say g300 more buttons, but g400 got more dpi 3.6k
*
problem with g300 is its sensor placement.

whats wrong with its placement?
*
some say it isnt good as the sensor isnt aligned at the centre of the mice. slightly to the bottom right.

I don't find any issue with the sensor placement on my G300. In fact the sensor is pretty good IMO.
A bit of fingertip x claw grip hybrid for me. It feels gooding in my hands. But I do get a little bit fatigue over long sessions of using it due to the small size of the mouse. The button clicks are gooding. Crisp but doesn't require too much force. The new Logitech gaming software is good too. Much more user friendly than the previous ones.
*
ah, nice insight. at least anyone who is interested in g300 but concerned of that feature would be relief to know it wouldn't affect much if they stumble upon your post.

Get the Logitech G400 or G300. Period. (Price around RM70-80)

G400 for palm grip (Higher DPI compared to the G300) , G300 for claw/fingertip grip (More buttons & with cool lights compared to the G400)
*
however, if you dont prefer off-set sensor placement, thn you might have to reconsider getting the g300.
