Hey there. I wanna repeat SPM for Biology subject this year. I got C+ for my SPM last year and I wanna make it at least B or A.. This is because I am in form 6 right now & I take P. Am, Biology, Chemistry and Maths T. My teacher said, even if in STPM I got A for Biology, I will not be accepted to University because my SPM Biology is C+.

Any information on how to repeat SPM? I heard it will be implemented in July. But, can I take the paper with other SPM students this year in November?

And since I am in lower 6, I don't know how to manage my time. Should I read Biology book first to excel in my SPM(repeat one) this year? I have others subjects to study too in lower 6. sad.gif

Err okay i never heard that if you excel Bio in STPM its still useless since your SPM Bio not so good.

Because STPM Bio is way harder. And people will look at your STPM result instead of your SPM.

I agree. That is kinda weird too and my teacher told that to me actually that we need to resit SPM if grades are not that good. Universities will look back at SPM. Im more confused now.

For scholarships, yes. For qualification, no you're already a stpm leaver with higher qualification so y bother looking at lower qualification.

I'm agreed with him..

Why bother taking it again while you manage to pass and credit the paper....

I seriously wanna kill my teacher right now. If I do not ask this in lowyat, me and my other friends will have to take time resitting for Biology again.

Hmm, scholarhsips? You mean scholarship for SPM leavers or STPM leavers?

Just focus on your STPM. If you get 4.0 then I'm sure you definitely stand a very good chance securing a scholarship. smile.gif

Since you had started your STPM(Form 6) life, so why don't you just focus on your STPM and strive for good grades? Repeat SPM Biology is unnecessary.

SPM results only necessary only when you want to go into courses that does not have a proper prerequisite or have looser restrictions.

Like let's say you're a Bio+Chem+Maths T student, usually you will take medicine or biology courses or chemistry courses. Let's say you decide you want Physics in Uni, but because you did not take Physics in STPM, they may look at your SPM Physics results.

minimum requirement for medicine in UM is A- in all subject. (i think)

Read that from somewhere before. Sorry if I am wrong.

Edited: For SPM. Of course your STPM would need 4.00 for medicine in UM.

For degree then they'll look at your pre-u result. If foundation they must look at your spm result even if you have stpm. The easiest try checking with any uni that u have in mind going to.

concentrate on stpm 1st...never use your stpm time to study spm book...this is very fool...

make sure u get high pointer for stpm biology
for spm...just let it be...
but it is kinda tough for stpm bio...if u doesnt have good basic for biology in spm...
anyway...if u score 4.0 in stpm bio and other your cgps is 3.92 above....u can get USM or UKM...never bother about UM...they are doing nonsense...that's y their ranking is keep on falling

Added on June 7, 2011, 11:30 pmpharmacy is tougher to get if compare with medicine in malaysia
this is bcoz the places is tooo limited...
sometime even u score 3.92 u cant also get pharmacy...
but medic...of course...u got high chance to get it

It's always alright to try to improve your grades. Certain universities would still look at your secondary grades besides your post-secondary grades, though it'll be very rare, or only apply to certain elite universities. Great example is the Cambridge University, that checks on gcse though with a levels at place. Some Malaysian universities might copy that move.
But, it'll be foolish to spend your pre u time to revise on SPM, and achieve similar result on it. When you have a higher qualification, usually the lower qualification would be rendered useless. What's the point of looking for your past, when you can judge your present? sleep.gif
About your question on the pharmacy, medicine is ultimately much more difficult to enter, all around the globe, with the exception of Bangladesh, Russia and Malaysia due to the inflation of medicine courses and the degradation of the honorable education. Therefore, currently in Malaysia, Pharmacy is deemed needing a flat 4.0, along side the rigor of medicine admission, but some claims have been circulating that certain 3.9 had been able to enter medicine; thus pushing pharmacy ahead to be more difficult in entry.
If you really wanna go on repeating SPM, you can go to the Lembaga Peperiksaan webpage, and download the application form under the SPM U (Ulangan).

one advice, never turn back no matter what it is. you already sitting for STPM, you must focus for the things ahead of you. and yup, i agree with all the people above, if you got better STPM result, they will not look at your spm result lagi. all the best in your studies.

Thank you everyone! Now I understand. The only thing I am confused about is the scholarship. I'd like to get one soon. I am afraid scholarship will see my SPM again. I have checked most of their requirements. I mean, local universities. They do not state clearly what achievement they would like to see. They only say "excellent results in STPM" & my studies in past should be excellent. Damn..I consider that they still wanna see my SPM.

Next week school will start again after these 2 weeks holidays. Glad that I use these times to study. Kesedaran amat diperlukan. sad.gif scared.

It is better for you to retake.I called UCSI,want to do degree in pharmacy, but they still look at your spm results instead of stpm. They required at least 5B.But when I asked them can I retake? They said they just accept the original spm results.
