QUOTE(zerigemok @ Aug 31 2011, 08:10 AM) uh oh..i'm travelling to japan for holiday on 2nd sept, i checked weather forecast for tokyo and scattering thunderstorms all week long Anyone in tokyo can confirm this right now? How's the rain? All day long or just stop-start rain? I dun think anyone here can confirm the weather since it's just forecast. It might or might not rain or have thunderstorms. Just be prepared with slippers and umbrella/raincoats. I'm heading there tomorrow! I was abit disappointed in the weather forecast as well. But the rain is expected as it rains all the time until end of Sept, I think.

Wow a typhoon..this is worse than imagined. So are we advised to stay inside when it strikes? Meaning we can't go visit places then?

Typhoons are typical this time of the year - usually nothing to be worried about in the Tokyo area. Just maybe lots of rain/wind. Just pack an umbrella and some water-resistant shoes and you should be all set.

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Aug 18 2011, 10:22 AM) Most important thing first you need to do is apply Visa. To apply Visa: 1st you must have Passport [ 6 month alive date before expired] 2nd you need a Bank Statement show you your bank account have minimum Rm6,000 Saving. After got Visa then only we can discuss the interesting part of Japan. How recent does the bank statement need to be? I read takes only bout 3 days to get the visa so i'm travelling in November, can wait till then on apply early and keep. Does the visa hv a 'use by' date? Thanks.

[edit] So anyway I went to Tsukiji fish market - twice! Once for Sushi Dai and once for Daiwa Sushi. Frickin' awesome! Totally worth the 1.5-hour queue. I'm thinking of visiting Japan in late December but i have a doubt to clear which is the visa application.
Do i need visa if i am to visit Japan for less than a month? This is what i found from The Embassy of Japan website, the quote stating that
"The visa-exemption arrangements between Japan and Malaysia have allowed Malaysian nationals who meet relevant conditions can enter into Japan without a visa for a period of stay not exceeding three(3) consecutive months."
Does anyone here know about the conditions to be met in order to enter Japan without a visa for staying less than 3 months?
Any help will be appreciated, thanks !
@Regentcid, do you travel a lot from Malaysia to Japan back n forth?

We really should merge both Japan threads. End up people (myself included) double post in both threads cos dunno which one to post in.
@Riggo I did some research on this before going on my holiday. Technically M'sians don't need visa to enter Japan for short holiday. But at the immigration, you will be taken to a room for interview/questioning. Here you need to have all your documents available to prove that you don't intend to overstay; if the authorities suspect anything they will deny you entry and you're on the next flight back to KL.
Best is to just apply visa lah, it's free and very efficient one. Go there, drop off documents, come back 3 days later to pick up - done! Got nice visa sticker in your passport also.

RM5k for flight + accomodation + food + transportation should be enough if you only travel within Tokyo. but all depends on : a. your flight ticket price - quite subjective as you can get low price from AA b. your accomodation standard, cheapest in Tokyo you can get abt Rm150per night (hostel type) or hotel is above RM250 per night. c. Transportation - within the vicinity of tokyo is relatively cheap unless if you plan to travle beyond tokyo. try to take night bus will save you a lot. my own experience, i spend about RM2.5k for my tokyo trip + one night stay in Nikko (total 8 days trip). all included except shopping. thanks to AA for the cheap flight ticket. I heard it is better to exchange currency in Japan rather in Malaysia, no idea if it is true or not. If not ,where is the best place to exchange in KL?

Do you know how Malaysia every shopping mall also at least got one money changer? Japan is not like that. Money changer is damn hard to find and if you do find it the rates are terrible. Exchange everything you need here - Mid Valley's rates are good. If in Japan you run out of money then find a seven eleven and withdraw from their 7-bank ATMs (normal ATM won't read your cirrus/mastercard ATM card).

As you would need to change to other common currency first as most money changer in Japan would not exchange RM. Twice the conversion, means twice paying the money changers for their services. To use international withdrawal, you would need to enable the option for your ATM card either through ATMs or bank-counter. And I have withdrawn money through Citibank in Shibuya, so, I'm guessing it should work for international banks as well. Anyway, for knowledge purposes. Bear in mind that electronic FX using debit/credit card can be quite brutal on the rates. Just FYI, last month I withdrew 20,000yen from local MY ATM @ 24.82 equals RM805.77 - that day's actual closing rate was 25.66, so I rugi almost 3.5% spread.
