Been using the nordictrack adjustable weight jump rope for awhile and the leather rope is starting to tear as it rub on the side of the handles. My friend have a reebok skipping rope with casing, i tried it and like the feel very much. Does anyone have a nice speed rope to recommend? prefer speed rope using cables like the reebok one.

I have both the Norditrack adjustable speed rope and the reebok. Honestly I prefer the feel and weight of the Norditrack as I find the reebok too "heavy". The Norditrack has a much thinner rope and it doesn't have any bearings attached to the handles which could be why they have a much lighter feel to the reebok. Been using them for over a year and a half without any problems or major wear to worry about.
I believe the Norditrack version costs about RM25 or so and they are light & smooth, great for "double unders"

I'm using the skipping rope as below. I think we are not talking about the same speed rope. Dharmain can u post the image of your skipping rope so i know which 1 to check out when i visit fitness concept later. Sorry to trouble u and thanks for the help. ApeKG, the nordictrack adjustable rope not only rub the leather rope with the handle, also i feel that i cannot go too fast with it as i can feel the air resistance when i swing. So plan to buy a good speed rope. Any good skipping rope that i can find from fitness concept or in malaysia? Added on June 3, 2011, 3:42 pmDharmain, are u talking about the nordictrack deluxe speed rope? Between nordictrack and reebok u think that nordictrack better? Which 1 can swing faster without resistance? I tried my friends reebok speed rope, because of the handle heavy, i can swing very fast and still maintain the rhythm, and also reebok rope and handle don't rub again each other because or the ball bearing. Can describe abit about your nordictrack deluxe speed rope experience? Thank you very much. This post has been edited by Streetrat: Jun 3 2011, 03:42 PM

sure streetrat, here's the one that I'm using still they pretty much cover all the basics. They're not weighted though, I noticed the ones you've posted were all the weighted variants.

Resurrecting a rather old thread, but has anyone found a location for good quality speed skipping ropes?
I have the Nordic Rope with weighted handles (as per streetrat's photos above), but very unhappy with it. The rope itself is too light for fast skipping, and rubs against the handles so it breaks off every so often. I added rubber tubes along the rope for extra weight to make it go faster, but it also increases the friction on the handles. A total waste of money, in my opinion.
Can't seem to find the heavier hemp, leather, or even steel core ropes, anymore. Any of which were much, much cheaper and better than the branded ones sold at fitness centres (at least to me).
