The Malaysian Institute of Training and Development (MITD), Penang, together with a local orchestra group, Musica Sinfonieta and several musicians and singers from Taiwan will be organizing a musical performance called “Music Extravaganza – Penang-Taiwan’s Musical Exchange” on Saturday January 19, 2013 at 7.30pm at the Dewan Sri Pinang, Penang. This musical concert will involve top musicians and singers from both Penang and Taiwan rendering classical music, folk songs and a classical performance, the Butterfly Lovers. It promises to deliver to people here a night of top rate music and songs, besides providing young, budding musicians from Penang an opportunity to interact and learn professionally from some of the leading Professors of Music from Taipei, Taiwan.
Among the artistes from Taiwan who will be performing are:
• Miss Elaine Chang (張杏月), one of Taiwan’s top soprano singers;
• Professor Chou Tong Fang, a famous vocalist/pianist and concurrently Professor at the Department of Music, National Taiwan University of Arts (周同芳,聲樂/鋼琴 (國立臺灣藝術大學音樂系教授);
• cellist Miss Sun Wan Ling (孫琬玲 大提琴, 曾任台北市立交響樂團首席,國立藝術學院大提琴教師,臺藝大校友會副會長) and
• Professor Dr Sun Chiao Ling, a famous violinist and Professor at the Department of Music, National Taiwan University of Arts (孫巧玲 小提琴, 國立臺灣藝術大學音樂系教授).
Apart from the cultural objective of promoting music, the concert will also be held for the purpose of assisting patients diagnosed with thalassemia. In line with this, proceeds from the concert, which will be raised exclusively from donations, will be donated to the Thalassemia Society, Penang (Pertubuhan Thalassemia, Pulau Pinang) and the Musica Sinfonieta.
