"klpac String Ensemble debuts with FANTASTIKAL STRINGS"
The stirring sound of the strings will fill the air this April as the klpac String Ensemble debuts with Fantastikal Strings under the baton of Dr. Takahisa Ota. Fantastikal is the word indeed to describe the youthful energy from the 40-strong ensemble and the lovely mix of well-loved folk songs, classical favourites as well as contemporary numbers.
The wonderful thing about f...olk songs is that each paints a different a picture of the land it comes from and carries with it a different tale of the people there. The ensemble will be bringing you on a journey around the world with songs from Emerald Isle, another name that Ireland is sometimes referred to because of its lush countryside, to the remote village in Southern China where the Yao tribe resides and then on to Mexico, Japan, Russia and even America.
Fantastikal Strings’ exciting programme does not end with the selection of folk songs. There will also be familiar classical pieces such as Kanon, Eine kleine Nachtmusik and themes from The New World Symphony. The ensemble will also be playing the theme song from the blockbuster hit Titanic as well as an old favourite popularised by the late Teresa Teng, Moon Represents My Heart. With such an interesting repertoire, the concert is sure to entertain and engage music lovers of all ages.
The idea of having a String Ensemble was planted back in 2010. The klpac Orchestra, then, had already been up and running for the past four years, nurturing and training musicians as well as holding regular concerts. However, with more and more players picking up an instrument at a very young age, klpac decided it was time to reach out to these young musicians. This will only be the first of many more exciting concerts from the klpac String Ensemble under the guidance of the capable and patient hands of Dr. Ota, or Ota-san as he is affectionately known, with the help of fellow trainer Shigeki Saito.
Stay tuned for more wonderful music coming your way this 2011.
