The iPad 2 can mirror its display to an LCD/HD TV via the HDMI Digital AV adapter. But how do I make the Ipad 2 to mirror the display on a normal / standard definition TV? I've been researching on this, and it seems like there is two methods:

Option 1 = Buy an iPad VGA Adapter (note that this is the old ipad1 adapter, not the HDMI/Digital AV version). Based on the reviews in Apple store, seems like the VGA adapter will mirror everything on iPad2. So if I buy this adapter and connect this to my iPad 2, I would also need to purchase a VGA to RCA (yellow, red and white) composite cable to connect it to my TV. My question is, will this work? Has anyone tried this / can anyone confirm this?

Option 2 = Buy an Apple Composite AV Cable and connect directly my iPad 2 to TV. This seems to be much simpler and cheaper. The problem with this is that the review said it might not work, or it might only display video, and not mirror the entire iPad2 to the TV. Has anyone tried this / can anyone confirm that this cable can mirror the iPad 2 display on regular TV?

Are there any other options that I may have missed? Has anyone successfully mirror the iPad2 display on a regular TV?

That's great news! Just to confirm, you tested it using a normal non-HD TV using the RCA composite input (i.e. the yellow cable), right? How's the picture quality, is it good? Can read the text etc?

By the way, which VGA to RCA cable did you use? Is it the same / similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/VGA-Adapter-S-Video-...06815080&sr=8-3

Option 1 does not have sound. You have to use the iPad2's speaker.

My TV is not an LCD TV, it's the old CRT TV (which does not have VGA port, it only has the yellow, red and white RCA composite input).

I went to buy the cables today, and I was told by the shop that the VGA to RCA adapter does not work. On top of that, I also found this article: http://brandonpotter.wordpress.com/2011/03...irror-is-foggy/

The article says that iPad2 mirroring will only work on normal TV (i.e. CRT/SD/non-HD TV with yellow composite input) if it uses a RCA converter box, which is a separate device altogether. The article has a link to such a device. Now I'm confused. I am also finding a hard time to find a shop that sells the VGA-to-RCA cable.

baretta, can I check with you a few things:

1. The TV that you tested, is it an LCD TV with VGA port, or is it the old CRT TV with only the yellow, red and white input only?
2. Do you connect your iPad2 with the VGA adapter directly with your TV (using the TV's VGA port)?
3. Or do you connect your iPad2 to the VGA adapter, and the VGA adapter is connected to the VGA-to-RCA connector (i.e. the yellow, red and white cable), and the yellow cable is connected to the TV?

Option 1: No it won't work as you described. It will work without any adapter, but won't work if you try to convert it to other signal (composite in this case).

Option 2: It will work but might have geometry problem (common problem on CRT) thus affecting the viewable size.

Option 3: Get the component cable instead, you'll have much better quality than composite, but the geometry problem will still be there.

The best way is to make sure the cables work is to install one app called Resupported it's available in Cydia. I use it on my iPhone 4, iPhone 3, ipad1

hi ppl,

i read some place whereby if you were to mirror the display from ipad to external display, eg. projector or tv or monitor, it will only display certain image/video/program only.

the main reason is, due to copyright issues. eg, if playing movie on ipad, and want to mirror the movie on external display, it will only mirror the movie if only the movie file allows you to do so. if the movie file is pirated, it will not mirror to external display.

can someone please confirm this?? btw, can you guys help to confirm if ipad2 can do powerpoint presentation to external display.

thanks.
