I don't know whether I can compare N8's with E52's gps because I never owned an E52 before.
With Assisted GPS on, you can instantly get a lock on your location. Yes you do pay your service provider a small fee (RM 0.10 per use, I heard from this forum).
Without A-GPS, my N8 takes around 3-4 minutes for it to get my location (open air, without movement) and personally I feel that it's better than my previous N95 8GB.

By the way, opera mobile 11.1 is out already. I'm not sure of its difference with opera mini.
