QUOTE(Wan @ Jun 8 2011, 07:02 PM)
They're rumoured to get Jose Enrique of Newcastle as well who shut down A.Valencia last time we played them. Liverpool are looking to build a solid foundation going with players that are proven in the league. Maybe those two(and Carroll) are not world class, but the potential is there to get better and in the long run prove to be the mainstay of their team. I like how their new policy.. more club should emulate that rather than going foreign most of the time. Good for them, sadly. Wish they keep signing those Rafa cheap foreigners type.

Apparently Phil Jones could be on the way there. Skysports has suspended their betting on him when the rumours came out of Jones might be at their place for medical checkup.

Heard is 13m + 3m from Diouf? laugh.gif

QUOTE
With Santa Cruz heading back to Eastlands, fellow striker Mame Biram Diouf has returned to Manchester United and United States international Jermaine Jones is back in Germany with Schalke.

"We have to respect the parent clubs," said Kean. "When the lads came on loan we tried to fix prices straight away and we couldn't do that.

"Now the loan periods are up, we'll be in contact with those clubs and see if they are available first and foremost. And, if they are and we have got the funds to pursue, that is something we can take a view on."

With Owen staying plus Fergie said Welbeck will get his chance, Diouf is the most likely to be loaned out or even sold. So its possible he could be part of the deal.

IF we do sign him, I think partially could be due to Liverpool's interest/move to try to sign him.

Couldn't be Moyes refused to let go Jack Rodwell so we're turning to Jones laugh.gif

Good guess! Both can play as midfielder or centerback! laugh.gif

There is no need to be sarcastic everytime someone talk about transfer rumours.

QUOTE
14:53 The big story of the day so far is Phil Jones, naturally, with stories everywhere suggesting that the defender will sign with the Reds today. Nevertheless, the whispers rage on. The Metro claims Chelsea have stolen ahead of United in the £30million race to sign Wesley Sneijder, with the player and his wife said to prefer London to Manchester.

if p.jones rumour are true, we have logjam at CB la. eventho he can play as DM sumtimes, but "if" fergie bring another CM in (as championed by everyone), i dun see how he or evans are gonna get games. Fear for evans more. Hope he won't be sold. still tink he is a great prospect.

Evans is definitely behind Smalling in the pecking order now. He will have to start playing consistently IF Jones do join us or else I really fear for his future sweat.gif

Fergie loves utility man who operates in multiple positions so JOS is safe I guess! biggrin.gif As for Brown, we hardly see him towards the last part of the season so will make you wonder about his future as well unsure.gif

Prem rivals chase Saints kid

QUOTE
Skysports.com understands that Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to lock horns again over Southampton's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after going head-to-head for Phil Jones.

United look set to win that battle, with the Blackburn defender having undergone a medical with the Premier League champions.

Arsenal will be hopeful of landing Oxlade-Chamberlain, with Southampton believed to have slapped a £15million price tag on the 17-year-old winger.

But United could rival the Gunners in a bid to lure the wonderkid to Old Trafford along with Jones and Aston Villa's Ashley Young.

January bid

Arsenal remain favourites having held a long-term interest in the England Under-21 international and they went close to securing a £10m deal at the end of the January transfer window following weeks of talks with Southampton.

The Saints are keen to keep hold of the exciting youngster, though, after winning promotion from League One and chairman Nicola Cortese does not need to cash in on the club's prized asset.

this thread is getting stupid stupid and stupid..

on the topic..
i wonder.. why the hell we need Jones? Young? are they up to the standard? i would say NO. a big NO
if Sneidjer or Modric is available, go for it but not another f**k*ng defender or a wing when we have enough.

but first of all, a GK is what i really wan, Da Gea is the 1 who is my all wanted list but not A.Young or Jones. not in my list at all so a big NO NO
Da Gea, and if it possible, Modric or Sneidjer.

that's the only 3 in my wanted list and that's all i wish for my birthday.
*
We do need some reinforcement in the defenders. Rio+Vida will be first choice when fit but as we saw in the past, Rio's fitness is not as good as it used to be. Smalling did well stepping into the team but if Brown leave then we need to add someone in. Not to mention Gary retired.

As for wingers, I can see Giggs been played more centrally and only ocasionally on the left hence leave us with only Nani, Park & Valencia as first choice wingers. Let's face it, both Obertan & Bebe is not ready for regular first team action yet. They had their chances last season but they didnt really grab it and had some poor performances. Young will provide us some pace down the wing plus his versatility will be useful since we do interchange our player position alot during matches.

Surely a lot wanted Sneijder/Modric but they will not come cheap, if they are available for sell in the first place. Harry already said we can forget getting Modric at 20mil while rumours now surfacing Chelsea is looking at getting the Dutchman. We will not afford to get into bidding war with the likes of Chelsea/City, we just wont match the financial backup they have.

The only position we can not worry about is strikers. We have more than enough: Wazza, Hernandez, Berba, Owen, Welbeck, Macheda and maybe Diouf (part of Jones deal?)

Paul Scholes testimonial: Manchester United legend Eric Cantona to return to Old Trafford

QUOTE
Manchester United icon Eric Cantona is coming back to Old Trafford.

Cantona's return has been confirmed as part of Paul Scholes' testimonial game on August 5, when the Frenchman will coach the legendary New York Cosmos side, currently bidding to gain admittance to Major League Soccer.

Although a decent crowd could have been anticipated anyway to mark Scholes' retirement, which was announced in the wake of Manchester United's Champions League final defeat to Barcelona last month, Cantona's presence will only fuel interest further.

The charismatic striker is regarded as one of the most significant figures in the club's entire history, proving to be the catalyst for United's emergence as the dominant side of the Premier League era.

He quit suddenly in 1997, having won four titles and two domestic doubles in his five seasons at Old Trafford.

"I wish to congratulate Paul for such an incredible career at Manchester United and I am looking forward to returning to Old Trafford in my new role with the New York Cosmos," said Cantona, who recently celebrated his 45th birthday.

Following David Beckham's return for Gary Neville's testimonial last month, it marks another significant day for United, and Scholes in particular.

"This is going to be a big night for me and my family but one which I intend to enjoy and I will savour every moment," said Scholes.

"I have spent my whole footballing life at Manchester United, so this will be an emotional farewell.

"This club is special in many ways but the fans are the best and I have always appreciated their support throughout my career.

"I hope they enjoy the night, especially seeing the Boss and Eric battling it out in front of the dug outs."

Scholes has committed himself to a coaching career at Old Trafford, having marked the end of his playing days, during which he secured 10 league titles, a figure second only to Ryan Giggs.

He is widely acknowledged to be one of the finest English players of his generation, with Sir Alex Ferguson all the more appreciative because Scholes turned his back on the celebrity lifestyle so many of his contemporaries revel in.

"Paul's retirement was typical of the man, low key, he was safe on holiday just so he could avoid any media interviews," said Ferguson.

"However he won't be able to hide away this time and it will be fantastic for the fans to be able to bid farewell to this exceptional footballer.

"The accolades he's received have been well deserved but for me Paul is one of those players who turns up, plays his football and it is that natural ability that makes Paul unique and revered by many, including myself.

"Now from one great player to another, Eric Cantona. I am going to relish this touchline showdown, one Gaelic mind to another.

"Neither of us will want to lose this one, it is sure to be a great night and a well deserved recognition for Paul."

Brazilian superstar Pele will be in attendance too in his role as Cosmos honorary president.

He played for the team during their previous incarnation, when they attracted superstar names from all over the world.

The club eventually crumbled, along with the demise of the North American Soccer League in 1984.

Former Tottenham vice-chairman Paul Kemsley acquired the rights to the Cosmos name in 2009.

He is aiming to secure an MLS franchise by 2013 and is using guest players to fulfil friendlies in order to revive interest in the Cosmos name.

Scholes match announced

QUOTE
Paul Scholes' testimonial will pit Manchester United against the New York Cosmos at Old Trafford on Friday 5  August, 2011.

The 36-year-old playmaker ended his epic playing career and agreed a coaching role with the club last month, but will line up for the Reds one last time in a showcase game which also features the return of Eric Cantona to Old Trafford.

The Frenchman, Director of Soccer at the Cosmos, will pit his managerial wits against Sir Alex Ferguson as he takes charge of the visitors, who will feature a selection of invited stars from around the world, and Scholes is relishing the occasion.

"This is going to be a big night for me and my family but one which I intend to enjoy and I will savour every moment," he said. "I have spent my whole footballing life at Manchester United, so this will be an emotional farewell.

"This club is special in many ways but the fans are the best and I have always appreciated their support throughout my career. I hope they enjoy the night, especially seeing the Boss and Eric battling it out in front of the dug outs."

Sir Alex expects the ever-bashful Scholes to be afforded a huge public send-off in recognition of his sterling service to United, and says it would be richly deserved after such a distinguished career.

"Paul’s retirement was typical of the man: low key, he was safe on holiday just so he could avoid any media interviews," said the United manager. "However he won’t be able to hide away this time and it will be fantastic for the fans to be able to bid farewell to this exceptional footballer.

"The accolades he’s received have been well deserved but for me Paul is one of those players who turns up, plays his football and it is that natural ability that makes Paul unique and revered by many, including myself. It is sure to be a great night and a well deserved recognition for Paul."

I think its about time to get all this sorted out.

Firstly, when it comes to transfer windows rumours from media/papers/etc is part of it so there is no problem for anyone to post any rumours linking the club with any players. Its NOT against the forum rules as far as I know as a moderator for Football Lounge as long as the source of the rumours is quoted. Whether the source is reliable or not, that's a different story and up to everyone to decide if to believe or not.

Now the second issue I had seen in this thread for a long time, sarcastic post. Are they really necessary? Are they? As stated above, no harm in posting some rumours linking with whatever players the paper want us to be linked with so why get so defensive and always reply with those sarcastic posts? Some even go to the extent of calling it a muppetry? What the hell is that? If merely posting some transfer rumours make it a muppetry, does it make any difference to those who intentionally replied sarcastically? To be very honest, I am sick and tired of reading those unnecessary post. I might have to start a practice of cleaning up those posts if this carry on any further.

Bottom line is, some would just want to post the rumuors about transfer news (which I do from time to time). Its fine if you find/think the source is unreliable/the player will not be what we need/whatever reason that is. Just read it and take it with a pint of salt. Do you think people are not getting annoyed by you replying sarcastically to them? I know for myself, I do and we had seen this could easily become pages of unnecessary sarcasm posts.

True. TBH, I don't feel the signing of Ashley Young and Phil Jones is neccesary, not in the next transfer windows at least.
*
Jones maybe (which our move might be forced by Liverpool trying to sign him this summer) but myself do think another winger is needed. Unless both Obertan & Bebe can suddenly turn into super flying wingers in 2 months time else we are left with Park, Nani & Valencia as regular wingers (note: I left out Giggs as I dont see him playing as wingers regularly).

Macheda to stay at United

QUOTE
Federico Macheda will not be leaving Manchester United this summer, according to the forward's agent.

The 19-year-old moved to Sampdoria on loan in January, but the club were relegated from Serie A and he failed to score in 14 appearances.

However, Javier Hernandez's emergence has seemingly left Macheda with little opportunity at Premier League champions United.

It was therefore suggested that Macheda may return to Sampdoria in their attempt to win promotion back to the Italian top flight.

But his agent, Giovanni Bia, told TMW: "Macheda will remain at Manchester United."

Scholes explains his retirement

QUOTE
Paul Scholes has revealed that his decision to retire was taken purely on physical grounds.

The veteran midfielder wound up his epic Reds career at the end of the 2010/11 season and, speaking for the first time at a media briefing ahead of his August testimonial, Scholes confirmed that he stands by his choice.

"It’s something I’m still getting used to, but I knew it was the right time," he said. "There were a few games last season where I didn’t feel great, and in training as well. I thought it was probably the right time to do it and I stand by that now. You can’t go on forever, it’s all done now and I’m looking towards the future.

"I don’t think anybody wants to play a bit-part, but I’d realised that the stage of my career I was at and the way I was physically, that’s just part and parcel of it. You’re at a top club with the best players and you just have to realise that maybe your legs can’t do what you want them to do anymore.

"If you are going to be a part of this club you have to be available from the beginning and top be able to last 90 minutes. When I was starting games I didn't feel great and the best was the last 15 or 20 minutes. I didn’t mind playing the odd game and 15 or 20 minutes at the end of games - it was probably the right way to use me. The best I felt was when I was playing 15 or 20 minutes at the end of a game and that is not really right."

Paul was speaking to ManUtd.com, the Press Association, the Manchester Evening News, Key 103 and BBC Radio.

Tackling the myth: There was no malice in my Manchester United play, says Paul Scholes

QUOTE
Recently-retired Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has rejected the theory there was any malice behind his infamous tackling technique.

Scholes is widely acknowledged to be one of the best players of his generation.

Zinedine Zidane, Xavi and Edgar Davids are among those who have claimed Scholes was the English player they would have most liked to star alongside.

However, along with the huge talent that propelled him to 10 Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph in 1999 came occasional haphazard challenges that bordered on the reckless.

Although overall, he was hugely complimentary, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claimed Scholes had a "dark side".

And following the final red card of his career, for a thigh-high challenge on Pablo Zabaleta in United's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley in April, even Sir Alex Ferguson admitted "the red mist sometimes descends" on the 36-year-old.

Yet Scholes, whose 90 yellow cards make him the third most booked player in Premier League history, feels his reputation is unwarranted.

"I have just been unlucky," he said.

"I never had red mist against anybody.

"The one against Zabaleta, I didn't do on purpose. It was just bad timing.

"The ball was up there and the way your leg goes it has to come down and unfortunately it came down on his leg.

"I would never intentionally try to hurt somebody. Nobody has ever had to go off following one of my tackles and nobody has broken their leg.

"I have never been nasty."

Scholes' opponents no longer have to worry, either about the midfielder's tackling or his remarkable passing ability.

As Ferguson noted, it was typical that Scholes' retirement should be announced when he had disappeared on holiday, with the minimum of fuss, in the wake of United's Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

He has now returned to explain his reasons, pointing out that it was his body, rather than frustration at being used so sparingly, that led to his decision.

"I knew it was the right time to happen," he said.

"You can't go on forever. It's all done now and I am looking towards the future.

"There wasn't one moment in particular. There were a few games later in the season where I didn't feel great, and in training as well. In general it was the way I felt.

"Nobody wants to play a bit-part, but I'd realised that at this stage of my career and where I was physically, it was the right way to use me.

"But, it wasn't the odd game, I was only actually feeling good when I was coming on for the last 15 or 20 minutes at the end of matches, which wasn't right."
