I've been testing the Sony official wireless headset for a good week now and I can say that it does fall short in comparison to the Turtle Beach PX21 (direct competitor as they are priced similarly).

Problem with the Sony official wireless headset is that it lacks bass controls.
Not being able to adjust the bass is quite an annoyance for me as in some games it'll be either too high or too low in others.

The build quality of the mic is also rather questionable, really cheap piece of plastic that looks as though it could break with ease.
And since on the mic topic, while chat quality is solid, there is no mic-monitoring in the headset as there is on the PX21.

This means it sometimes feel like I'm talking in a confined room and it's hard to determine whether sometimes I'm talking too loud or soft.
Further annoyance comes when the game audio is too loud, you will have difficulities hearing what your friends are saying on the other end.
The PX21 on the other hand has a variable chat boost feature that will automatically scale the chat volume up or down depending on the in-game volume.

The virtual 7.1 surround sound is a great addition for games, something the PX21 can only achieve if you buy the Turtle Beach DSP processor which would then cost nearly twice as much as the Sony headset by then.
Sure the virtual 7.1 isn't going to replace proper home theater setups, but it does hold on its own.
Being able to determine where your enemies are really does give you an edge, especially in FPS multiplayer games.

However, the virtual 7.1 surround sound does not work for movies and again... this is a rather missed opportunity for Sony.
Hopefully there will be a firmware that'll allow 7.1 surround sound to be used for movies in the future.

If I would have to choose between the Sony wireless headset and the Turtle Beach PX21,
I'd still go with the PX21 simply due to it having bass controls and mic-monitoring/variable chat boost.

Of course if you really can't deal with wires, for RM300 the Sony wireless headset is about the best you can get from a wireless headset at this price however.

No problem guys. smile.gif

Though one thing I forgot to mention about is the battery life, lasts about 6 hours and a half on a full charge and I had the volume at 70-85% most of the time.

i saw number of complaints that this headset will interference with your wifi devices. For instance psn signout after connected the headset, noise if close with the wifi adapter. But my major concern is will it consume my wifi bandwidth since it is not using bluetooth? because my internet is freakin slow so i might problem playing cod online  sweat.gif

No disconnection issues here.
I'm playing online with my PS3 on wifi, my phone is also on wifi as well as my laptop.

great review ben...

i want to ask 1 thing, how does the weight of the headset feel on ones head?
*
Thank you~
The headset is really light and I for one CANNOT bear heavy headsets or headsets with a very stiff headband.

Thankfully, the Sony official wireless headset is light and the headband is flexible enough that it doesn't apply a huge amount of pressure onto my head.

It is about the same weight as the PX21 too, which to me is one of the lightest gaming headsets I've ever experienced with.

in dilemma either buy this or px21.... sad.gif

See if you really mind the messy cables of the PX21 or not and if you want the Virtual 7.1 surround sound.
If so, then the Sony headset isn't too bad a choice.

thanks for the info, Ben..coz I read thru abt the interference with wifi devices too but since u have no problem, i would be happy abt it
*
Hmmm...
It could be due to the fact also that they're using those cordless 2.4ghz house phones?

Now THAT could cause some interference.

anyone using this headphones??

also another one ps3 headphones @_@

It's the same Steelseries Siberia V2 headset as the PC which came out a year ago.
Extremely comfortable headset, even more comfortable than the Sony wireless headset or the Turtle Beach PX21.

On it's own, it's a solid 2.0 stereo headset.
Lacking in bass, but the mid and high range is pretty good.
Sound quality are mostly crisp and clear until you crank up the volume beyond 70% though.

The Steelseries LiveMix feature is an added bonus though, it's handy when you want to hear chat volume more than the game volume (although it isn't as dynamic as the one found in the Turtle Beach).
Last thing, I love the retractable boom mic.

Nice headset, if comfort is absolutely the most important aspect.. you won't find many which will beat the comfort of the Siberia V2.
You have to however, deal with wires.

Haven't tried with PC, but it should work just as well as it would on the PS3.

Make sure you enable voice chat output TO THE HEADSET under your audio device settings in the XMB.

After further week of extensive usage...
The headset has burn-in and does sound better on the low-range which was lacking a little bit for me previously.

I wish Sony could somehow implement a firmware which will enable some basic Equalizer settings for the headset through the PS3, wishful thinking but if it happens... WOOT! biggrin.gif

Guys... thing to consider when you buying this. The battery is not interchangable just like the PS3 controller. Not sure how long it can last.
*
With constant usage, everyday for about 2 hours... it should last atleast 3 years before the battery completely dies off.
My DS3 bought back in 2008 still lasts for about 6 hours on a full charge.

Guys, how long do u usually charge the headsets?
First time and consecutive times?
Waiting to receive my package hopefully by tomorrow biggrin.gif
*
First time out of the box, 2 hours+. Probably 3.. I didn't keep count.
After that whenever the battery gets low (didn't completely finish the battery), I'll charge it till it's full. Usually takes about 1 hour 45 mins or so.

can anyone here compare these with the px5s pls,i was thinking about selling them
*
The PX5s are at a different league.
The drivers in the PX5 are already bigger, and the PX5 has much better bass, lows and mids.

So many more extra features too.
Now, if only Turtle Beach get their custom preset software right, the PX5 would rule.

Since you already have the PX5, I really see no reason for you to get the Sony wireless headset.
And comfort wise, I do think they're pretty much as good as one another.

Hmmm.. apparently, there are some people from the US who are having the same issues on the headband as well.
It doesn't impact anything on the headset (the comfort of the band that is), but yeah... doesn't look as perfect as it should.

I don't know if this is a manufacturing issue from Sony or what..

Don't nessasarily need to play online.
It's a good headset for all your single-player games too.

oh really. im using px21 playing around 2 hours already feel pain. ouch. damn sensitive lah my ear.  doh.gif
*
The problem with the PX21 is that it only fits for people with smaller ears (not saying yours are big, no offense bro! tongue.gif ).
Otherwise yeah... it hurts because the auricle of your ear presses against the speakers itself and that hurts, after 2 hours of usage.

Sony headsest won't have such issues due to the much bigger allowance in the ear pads.
Personally, the only other gaming headset that feels more comfortable than the Sony is Steelseries Siberia v2.

guys how long does ur headphone last for a full charge? mine has about 1 bar left after about 3 hours of gameplay...

I think even with full volume and 7.1 surround sound turned on, you'll get more than 3 hours on a full charge.
Atleast up to 5 hours.

A very cheap and ineffective way to for Sony to implement mic-monitoring.
Just so they could have a feature Turtle Beach or Astro has.

Lol.. by doing so, this is what happens. doh.gif

I wonder how much of an upgrade the Pulse Elite is over this old model.
*
I believe the drivers are the same.
The "BassImpact" thing? Probably an equalizer perhaps. Not really a bad idea though, as the old model IMO lacks punch on the bass.

The hidden noise-cancelling mic is quite unique though. Moms might think their kid is crazy talking to themselves if she doesn't see a mic when they're online. laugh.gif

To be more precise, September 22nd this year.

So could be anytime from Sept till December.

Hopefully it'll be fully compatible with the PC as well, the current headset didn't really had official support for the PC (it worked, but a little troublesome with some games here and there).
