Owners of the first version WTA how to know if my virtual surround mode is on or off? fyi there's a button at your top left there.
*
Easy, to know if u're in surround mode or not, once u're connected to the ps3, press on the virtual surround button on the top left of the headset, then see the on screen notification. If u see the headset icon got circle surrounding it means u are on virtual surround mode, if without means u're not. Sorry i could not join u for FIFA13 yesterday, Busy FUT. Tonight let's play with MIC on ok?

On the Pulse Elite, I think the VSS works well enough, but not enough to know exactly where things are most of the time, like which direction you're getting shot from. Or maybe it's my ears.
Also, i think the volume could be louder, i put it on max volume playing bordelands 2 and that wasn't too overpowering.
Haven't tried the mic though.
Those are the cons i can think of, which i think aren't that bad, love everything else about 'em though.

Yes, the volume output is a little bit underwhelming for me too — but to each its own, some people may find it too loud.
The VSS isn't as accurate as Turtle Beach's DSS/DSS2 as well. Understandable, Sony isn't using any Dolby Headphone technology here... hence, they don't need to pay royalties and raising the price of the headphone.

yup, that's another reason why i love this headset, can use wireless when on pc/ps3, or can listen to music on ipod when not on wireless
the wire is not very long, but more than enough if wanna use the headphone with phone/ ipod in pants pocket

Sometimes i notice a drop of sound output when playing with the Pulse, like when playing borderlands 2 and firing like crazy, the sound would just drop for a second then pick up again as usual. Not sure what's up with my headphones or has anyone experienced this?
I'm not sure if it's busted because the sound drop is seldom and other than that it functions superbly, as it should.

A lot of other wireless interference around your place?
Understand that the wireless USB connector is running on a 2.4ghz frequency... so if you have a lot of wireless interference, like modem/routers, mobile devicies, microwave, cordless phones, etc. etc, then your audio dropping is normal.

Wouldn't have mind Sony raising the price to $179 just to include 5ghz support for their wireless support, would have solved all wireless interference issues.

Here's also hoping in the next few firmwares, Sony would allow higher volume outputs to the Pulse headset.

Interference might be it, i've got a router and handphones near. Hope that is just the case.
And yeah, if they increase the vol output through future updates, that would be awesome.

Depends how big your head and ears are. It didn't get too warm for me when I took it through a continuous battery stress test (about ~6 hours).
Most importantly, it didn't make my ears sweat or did I get any headaches (BassImpact at 40-60% with default Game preset).

Though the headband could be a little bit uncomfortable for some due to its 2-piece design and the layer of padding not being thick and plush enough.

Conclusion for comfort, personally... I think the Pulse ranks as one of the most comfortable gaming headsets out there now.

The only thing Sony can improve on the comfort is the use of memory foam on the ear cups and a 1-piece with plush padding for the headband.
