Thailand have many things relatively cheap compare to us surprisingly.. Yonex racquet which I usually keep an eye is around 20% cheaper than malaysia.. However many rumour said they are lower quality yet no one able to prove them
*
They save on QC. I worked in manufacturing before. Usually the products destined for 3rd world countries like India and China, the QC not so stringent so they save alot of $$ on that. For EU countries the QC is damn strict so alot of extra $$ there. So essentially you are paying for the QC, the product however is essentially the same.

What happened to your phone bro?

There was an issue with the camera unable to focus. Not related to software, probably a hardware issue, so got the phone replaced. Took little more than a week.

This is what happened to the phone that RViN bought from me.
Brought in back to supplier and they said it's "out of focus" and they replaced 1 unit for him
after 1 week.
Now the unit he has got a dead pixel sweat.gif
*
Yeaps finally got it replaced by the importer after a couple rounds of quick fire sessions.

Apparently they only replace it once so if you have a defective unit the 2nd time around you are out of luck. What nonsense!

But checked thoroughly the unit I took so very happy and cooled down a lot now smile.gif, I think this will be my last Samsung phone though, the QC on this phone sucks despite it being their top end phone!. Thanks for the help Mike, sure its not your fault but must be a little careful next time. Check the stock they give you as damn these importers can be sneaky!

Also apparently the dead pixel issue is quite common, you can check from the diagnostic menu *#0*#

Just a question since I am still new in Android (former Maemo boy haha, things were much simpler there), if I root the phone, can I still receive firmware updates automatically from KIES or OTA ?

Also I see there are many kinds of ways to root using different tools and kernels. Any difference in those methods?

Ok thanks guys will have a look, no need for root at the moment but later on I wanna hack this to kingdom come lol so I will need root access. I am wondering cause I dont check for long periods for firmware updates, so getting a notification there is one is welcomed. It will be an annoyance to flash firmware back and forth, would be nice if KIES still able to do the flashing even after rooting.
As for giving root access, there are many excuses but our computers come with root access so why cant our phones wink.gif same thing really since phones are fast catching up. The excuses are just a way to control the platform... Maemo was open full fledged Linux Mobile OS. Sadly Nokia put their heads up their own ass and killed it prematurely.

These are some shortcomings of Android, well at least better than iPong! lol

Nah given up on Nokia, they will screw that phone from top to bottom so why waste my hard earn $$ on that... lol gonna be sticking to Android for now. Wonder when can we dual boot on an Android though?

Hello Uncle Ben, might need your help here. I was reading that thread in the link on the post you mentioned but I am getting lost. I dont see any instructions on how I need to get it done. I am sure some flashing is required.

Any instructions from yourself mate? Greatly appreciate it smile.gif

1/ First attempt:
SHW-M250S_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio.tar
2/ Insecure Kernel, can be used to root your device:
SHW-M250S_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-1.tar
3/ Now built from GT-I9100 sources, still allows easy rooting!
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio.tar
4/ Added CIFS support as module.
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-1.tar
4/ Automatic rooting! All you need to do is boot, and its magically rooted − su and Superuser.apk installed in /system
GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-2.tar

5/ init.d support! will run anything present in /system/etc/init.d/

GT-I9100_Kernel_Gingerbread-supercurio-3.tar

Download this file , put it under PDA , DO NOT TICK RE-PARTION and flash it via Odin
