Shihlin night market is the worst night market in Taiwan, don't ever bother to go there, it's got nothing special, the stuff they are selling are all the same, better use the time to go else where, there are tonnes of night markets in Taipei, I went to 臨江街観光夜市 instead of Shilin and it's nice, it's like our petaling street, but not as crowded, and has quite a lot of different food choices and items in there.http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/taiwan/arc...2/26/2003521662

and Jiufen (九份) is a must go if visiting Taipei, if u have the time, must at least spend the night, I loved it so much. If you know how to read Chinese, just go there free and easy, don't ever follow tour or you'll regret it. 10 out of 10 friends of mine said follow tour just ruins the fun, makes them really miserable, some even say Taiwan sucks they regret going there. Even if u don't read Chinese, it's better if u just go there for adventure like all those westerners. If u've got a smartphone, even easier, just use google services like maps and translate. If you are using android phone, just use voice action to settle everything (in Chinese of course), that's what i've been doing.
