How many days recommended for Taiwan trip? Planning to cover most of the MUST GO places only. TQ

Is it better to go with tour or self guide?
Experienced self touring with SG, HK and Melb. Any problems doing that in Taiwan because cant read chinese at all.
*
If yu can talk chinese it's ok. people's here hardly to speak english.

I booked for 8D7N. Plan to travel:

Taipei - Kaoshiung - Alishan - Hualien - Taipei ... Is this route alright? Details still in planning..
*
Try go Taichung not bad thoo. Kaoshiung near Tainan yu can go tainan city for a walk, things at there quite cheap.

do u all suggest to bring USD then only exchange to TWD in TW or use RM to exchange TWD here in malaysia?
*
Its better if you take yr bank card to withdraw in Taiwan , it is about rm2200 for 20000NT$ Currency 9.40 .Deduct Rm10-Bank service And 0.30currency....If currency 9.60+ Each 1k you withdraw deduct rm60+10
