QUOTE(fionalee31650 @ May 30 2011, 07:05 PM) Hi all, First of all, u need to get the international driving license.. I'm going to Taiwan in September and planned to travel around West and Southern Taiwan. I planned to drive through the journey as it is not as convenient as Taipei. Any advice on driving in Taiwan? This is my draft itineary: Taichung --> Sun Moon Lake --> Cingjing --> Nantou --> Chiayi --> Alishan --> Tainan --> Kaohsiung It will be a 9 days trip and of cos for some of the places...it will only be day trip or half a day trip. Please advice on the driving portion! Btw how many people are going? if just 2 of you, i not think driving is good idea.. some more not familiar with the surrounding n road condition, better strict to hiring a driver + car if money not a problem for u.. |

QUOTE(lawliet88 @ Jun 11 2011, 02:27 PM) i din buy pineapple cake during my trip since msia also can get it easily Ah.. thanks.. noted in my list if u can eat non-halal food, try this, i get high rating from my fren n family » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « hints: actually u can find alot of food type gift under their supermarket。 try go over to Taipei City Hall mrt area, there got: 4x 新光三越 (Shin Kong Mitsukoshi - try visit lower floor of A4 block, alternative way to purchase pork paper i post), 統一阪急百貨 (Hankyu - Uniqlo Taiwan) 诚品信义区 (Eslite) BELLAVITA (heard it was the highest class lady department store o_o) all these just nearby each other at city hall mrt QUOTE(rayzrblade @ Jun 11 2011, 03:19 PM) even now they suspect the pineapple tarts ALSO have the cancer causing chemicals. so be careful what you buyin. Ya, many of my relatives told us about that.. and ask us dont buy anything from taiwan QUOTE(jlgoh9 @ Jun 11 2011, 06:27 PM) usually ppl buy pineapple cake, sun cake and muachi back from taiwan... What is sun cake? noted in my list to Jiufen.. personally, i don't really like taiwan's pineapple cake as ours are much more nicer. but since your friend/family might not been to taiwan before, can let them experience that la... i bought sun cake from taichung. tasted ok but not really wow. taichung is famous for it's sun cake. but my tour guide say that you can get better one at Jiufen. else, i also bought some food stuff at cingjing. p/s - blog updated A few of my family members too scare for taiwan food now.. so i think i wont buy much.. maybe a little bit for my own n colleagues only.. what a good timing |

QUOTE(jlgoh9 @ Jun 14 2011, 01:45 PM) you're going for a day trip to Taroko? I think it does not make any significant difference compared to going to cingjing. Yup, since i plan to visit to Taroko Gorge only n few hours there should be enough.. n nothing much else over the Hualien n surrounding so planned for a day trip only.. take an early bus to cingjing that u can reach cingjing at about 11.30am. Spend like 4.5 hours there till 4pm? then take bus to puli, then to taichung, then take hsr/normal train back to taipei. and u'll reach taipei at night too... it's not advisable to do that anyway since you'll be spending more time travelling rather than sightseeing. maybe staying one night at hualien will be better. get a place where u can face the sea. Read ur latest blog, Cingjing is definite worth to visit.. maybe next time for me.. transfer here n there is tiring |

well, really fun and nice trip.. but tiring.. walking, walking and walking only.. Taiwanese are just so nice and friendly During my trip, there is typhoon coming in.. scare me out but lucky that it didnt directly "attack" the land.. just whole day raining and windy.. During my tour at Hualien, met a nice taxi uncle.. he treat us like his son/daughter.. even bring us to back to his "hometown" for a short visit and a lot of story sharing.. do let me know if you need this nice taxi uncle contact no. |

QUOTE(kons @ Jun 30 2011, 12:14 PM) aha, when i first went there last time, the cashier wanted to tell me something, after saying to the same like 10 times but still I couldn't get it, she just gave up. QUOTE(aiyume @ Jun 30 2011, 12:21 PM) so you went to taroko? pity it was raining....very troublesome to go around in the rain right? hopefully when i go that time the weather will be good. what's the name of the restaurant? Added on June 30, 2011, 12:23 pmoh btw, i think taipei backpackers hostel rooms have different building for different type of rooms. from jlgoh's blog his room is opposite the bakery shop right? mine the address is different and the building has 7-11 downstairs. Eerr.. i forgot the restaurant name and didnt take photo of the shop.. |
