Hi guys,

For those who haven't already heard, I just wanted to let everyone here know about the Malaysian Games and Comic Convention 2012 that's coming up soon.

I've been reading this thread for a while (without posting!!) and I've noticed that some people here are looking for back issues. Well you might be interested to know that my friends and I will be selling loads of back issues at the Con.

We'll have literally thousands of comics for sale starting from RM2. Titles include X-Men, Avengers, Batman, Spidey books and much much more.

Look for us at the Apokolips Galeria booth. It'll be the one with all the cool comics biggrin.gif

how much are you guys selling crisis on infinite earths?
*
Why don't you come over to the Con to check it out? I wouldn't want to start a price war on this thread as another guy is also selling it. smile.gif

My apologies for that but I was just promoting the Con and my booth and suddenly other people jumped in as well. tongue.gif

Apokalips Galleria..or something...

why this weekend, arghh...won't be around in KL this week...sigh
*
Thanks for the kind words bro smile.gif

Yeah, my friends and I were at the Malaysian Comics Con...we were the Apokolips Galeria booth. I have to say though that it was so hectic then I didn't have time to ask any of our customers if they were Lowyat forumers...

Sorry to hear you won't be around this weekend...thought most people would already be back and resting at home after balik kampung for Raya holidays...

Added on August 29, 2012, 10:56 amSooo...someone just pointed out to me that the Comic Sale on my post starts at 1 am... oops.gif

It's supposed to start at 11am...if anyone's read it, sorry for the confusion...

wildhawk: I know Mind Shop ships orders to outstation customers but I don't know if they do it weekly or monthly. Chances are if you pay for it I don't see why they can't courier your comics to you.

munchoong: Does everyone pay USD x 4.2 at CC? What happened to their 20% discount for members?

No more 20% discount for members @ Comics Corner cos comics no longer their bread and butter, they focus more on CCGs

AFAIK everyone pays the standard 4.2 exchange rate there

If you're in Penang, you can check out Splash Page Comics, their exchange rate is 4.0, but books may arrive 1 week later than Klang Valley shops
*
Wow. No discount and paying the standard 4.2 rate is a really bad deal. When I stopped buying from them they still had discounts for members. Of course that was 10 years ago tongue.gif

As for Splash Page Comics, the reason their books arrive later is because they get their shipment from Mind Shop too. Same goes for Earth 638.

They charge cover price for back issues, although I've been heckling Mae to give me discount. No success yet.

The Mind Shop has lots of back issues (although selection and variety not very good) at RM5 each.
*
I doubt Mae can give you any discounts on back issues. You've gotta talk to her dad. Or Alex if you can find him.

And yeah, CC can bring anything they want. And I mean anything, because that family has connections.

Doesn't mean it's a good thing though. Back when they were really invested in comics, they screwed the other shops quite a bit.

I contributed US$150 for the Kickstarter campaign that financed this project. Can't wait to get my hands on the exclusive hardcover edition (coming in March 2013) biggrin.gif
*
So contributors get an exclusive hardcover? Do you need to pay for that or is it a FOC thank-you gesture?

Friends in the US of A and Canada. But each signature cost about USD20. Problem is no money to get CGC graded  tongue.gif
*
Whoa! Don't artists sign for free, especially at Cons? Unless he added a sketch, USD20 is freakin' expensive, no?

Not necessarily, the con may require you to buy a voucher to redeem for his signature to cover the expense.

At smaller Cons, sure. But not at large Cons where publishers make the artists available for signings.

QUOTE(munchoong @ Aug 2 2013, 08:47 AM)
I paid US$2 per signature to Mile High Comics to get some comics autographed by Jim Shooter and Chris Claremont, and they were charging US$12 for Neal Adams autographs.

When I was in NZ, I paid NZ$20 to get autographs from Katee Sackhoff and Kristanna Loken.

Fortunately both Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti were willing to autograph for free smile.gif
*
Yeah, but you were paying Mile High, not the artists themselves. It's just like when Final Frontier brought Jae Lee in for a signing and charged RM50 for his autograph.

And no comment on Hollywood celeb autographs; I have no idea what the protocol is for those.

I guess I misunderstood cjlio1's post; I thought he meant he Jim Lee himself was charging for a signature. Buying a voucher or paying an entry fee for a signing I can understand.

munchoong & hadijajlil - To paraphrase a certain Soviet spy, "You and I remember the 90s very differently."

I hated the 90s trend of "special covers". To me, that was the lowest point in my comic collecting days. The only hologram covers I had were the Fatal Attractions covers & the Wolverine 100 and I was so happy when I sold 'em off.

It really felt like Marvel & DC were promoting the covers more than the actual content. I know there were some pretty good comics back then, but they got lost in all the hype about the next hologram die-cut 3D super-imposed glow in the dark cover. It was just annoying.

Thank goodness for Vertigo, Independents & back issues...
