I would say unlikely for the D700 replacement to be out faster than the D3's replacement. Well, Nikon would probably sell the D3 replacement first to cater for professional. If D700 replacement comes with same sensor, that would hurt their D3 replacement sales.

What do you mean D3 came out with D3s?

Nikon had to update the D3, else most people are going for D700 instead of the higher range D3. This is why D3s came in, and D3s came like 2 years after D3 was released right, (not too sure on this). So I don't think the pro and semi pro FX will be launched so near together. But then, I might be wrong. If Nikon wants their D3 replacement aka the flagship to sell well, they probably will hold the D700 replacement back.

Why dont you directly go to D700 2 years ago ?
