QUOTE(Redcross @ May 29 2011, 02:30 AM)
18-70mm or 18-105mm VR

having read kenrockwell reviews about these 2 lens above

having a dilemma to choose a simple walkaround lens

was wondering which of u will pick any of these lens above?

18-70 has closer min focus distance (0.38m compare to 18-105, 0.45m)) which attract me more, it has a scale meter which i find it useful when shooting video or landscapes (Hyperfocal technique)

but 18-105 has VR which is an advantage and has more focal length, Kenrockwell review this lens is soft at 18mm and has terrible distortions...
*
being used both. I'd say it depends on your need of VR.
if your cam is pretty bad in ISO handling. you might want to get VR because you are basically restricted to use high range of ISO for gaining extra stops.

the wider aperture on 18-70 is good as well. however from 4.5 to 5.6 difference is not giving you a noticeable benefit, unlike VR technology which is very noticeable.

in term of bokeh, 18-70 has an advantage because it is f 3.5-4.5
however in term of color redention, 18-105 giving more pleasant color looks.

the extra 35mm longer range is not giving a noticeable difference (for me).

my suggestion is if you are in need of 35mm extra reach then go ahead with 18-105.
if you have a good ISO capability, please proceed with 18-70.

I found out the focusing speed in 1870 is faster than tamron 1750. sweat.gif

Shooting apa kat mana? laugh.gif
Well, I always resize the photos to 720px before I upload them. Hmm... photo quality does degraded, however it's very minimal and usually only losing sharpness instead of gaining noise.
Thanks geekster129 smile.gif

I just reviewed the photos and gonna say it's just so-so only. Can't expect much from my first time shooting and without much proper practice of shooting and usage of flashgun. It's kind of interesting and fun as always need to adjust the flash head when taking photo laugh.gif. Gotta push myself a little more to do more shooting to gain more skills and experience. Really need all the gurus here tunjuk ajar sikit smile.gif

BTW, if I'm to look for one decent lens to cover up wedding photography, which one could it be? I remember I read a lot of people recommending 70-200 from this forum. However, in tight area like the place I shoot last weekend, 70-200 even on FX will be very limited as the place is small, perhaps 24-70 then? What would you guys recommend for my next target to get?

Thanks will do compress again. =\
