18-70mm or 18-105mm VR

having read kenrockwell reviews about these 2 lens above

having a dilemma to choose a simple walkaround lens

was wondering which of u will pick any of these lens above?

18-70 has closer min focus distance (0.38m compare to 18-105, 0.45m)) which attract me more, it has a scale meter which i find it useful when shooting video or landscapes (Hyperfocal technique)

but 18-105 has VR which is an advantage and has more focal length, Kenrockwell review this lens is soft at 18mm and has terrible distortions...

I just getting few dust on my sensor by shooting f22, some more is brand new....
so just want to make sure is it will be charge for the service.

It is that I need to bring the warranty card to proof or just walking in ?
