heard a lot of riders going down at Genting, pretty dangerous... actually I never ride my bike going up there before, I need to hit the track first to improve my skill before going up there...
taking part in trackdays is a "must" for all sportbike/superbike riders...
ride safe bro, peace...
You're wrong.
Track Riding and Street Riding are 2 very different types of riding altogether.

In track, your route is fixed. same 15 corners, same curve, same brake markers, same width of track - you may vary the way to take one specific corner, early or late braking, entry & exit speed, entry and exit point, lean, speed, gearing, body position etc but eventually you'll arrive at a style and speed you're confident with, then repeat that style and track often enough, you will then gets slightly faster with improved lap time SO you think you're improving. With your method of "Tracks first, Street later", you may think your riding skill has improved but let me assure you, it DOES NOT translate to being street smart rider where Defensive Riding is a whole different ball game altogether.
I have always seen these riders who has track experience, bringing their track riding style onto public roads in Genting, Bukit Tinggi and Klawang. Always makan jalan in the name of keeping to the racing line. Sure, you do go fast, you do take the corners clean and sharp, arrived at the next checkpoint earlier and smoke a ciggie or two while waiting for the "slow riders" to arrive. If you're lucky, that is.
Unlike track, in public roads you have other road users - pedestrians bicycles cars lorries and other bikes. you get oncoming traffic. you get other vehicles who MIGHT overtake into your lane, you get poor road surface, you get blind corners, you get road debris. you get road works and vehicle breakdowns blocking the road. you get wet and sand patches. there are even more variables for you to consider apart from how you wana take a corner, positioning and speed, riding on street compared to riding in track.
Personally i do not fancy track riding. I am not a racer boy, i am a street rider through and through but i take utmost care not to ride aggressively on public roads. All that being said, I would suggest you do both at the same time so you can actually see for yourself the differences between the 2 and adapt accordingly. Dont wait. start whenever you can.
**p.s. : oh by the way, Genting route is very simple and forgiving route lah. nobody is telling you to race up there. No prize even if you can go up from first guardhouse to coffee bean under 10 minutes. ppl go there to chill lah.
