i think open mean Open-back:

good that your XPS has express card... i dont have that option. even my old XPS1330 has express card

I think it's a good investment especially with that, you no longer need to worry limited size of SSD... most thing can run off directly from USB 3.0!

Don't think got that kind of cable..
Old hdd on the drawer, no casing for it

Because that one is Power over eSATA, means only need one cable for eSATA + power..
plus can be use as USB 3.0 if the computer doesn't support eSATAp..
