Just asking for opinions again, and also some ideas.

I've just started weight lifting about half a year, the equipment i have is 2x adjustable 10KG dumbell + a ezy barbell, when i do benchpress i will take all my 2x10kg weight and put it on my barbell means around 20kg+ total. I'm thinking about buying some weights to increase my bench press, should i do that?or i continue lifting with my 20kg first?

2nd questions, My 10kg dumbell is made up of 2x0.5kg, 2x1.25kg, and 2x2.5kg. What weight should i buy for the next level?2x5kg? or 2x 10kg?

Sorry to trouble you guys with silly questions again, and thank you.

Its simple bro, if the weights you're using is too light, then increase the weights. Whether you wanna buy the 1.25kg or 2.5kg or 5kg or 10kg weight plate is up to you.

Buy a normal barbell and more weights. If you think you're ready then go ahead with 10kg plates. Else stick with 5 or lower. I would recommend lower so that you can find tune and progress the weights slowly.

If budget is not an issue I'd actually ignore the headache and just buy 1 or 2 more adjustable dumbbells. This way you have another bunch of variable weights to add on.

BTW, I hope you already know that your dumbbell weight can use on barbell too.... or vice versa...

Thanks for your info, all my weights i use is from my dumbell, thats why max i only got 2x10kg. My ezybar 1 side can max fit in 6 plates, so i was thinking that since i lift 20kg, can i just buy 2x10kg+ 2x0.5kg from my dumbell and start from there? The 10kg i will only use it for ezybar, 10kg dumbell is still quite heavy for me. Fitness concept ikano dont have standard barbell, olympic bar is too long for my house. So conclusion? smaller weight piece so i can use for my dumbell as well, or just 2 big piece for my bar?

Sorry guys for the silly questions, i've never been to a gym so don't know how u guys do things there. Thanks alot for all the info.

I've exactly the same thing like urs. The set of 10kg DB.And it's just later I add on a Barbell instead of ur EZ bar.Later I add on 2X5kg weight plate.

I just think that if I want to lift harder on the barbell, loads all then I have 15 a side.30 whole thing.

If want lift harder on DB, load the damn 5kg plates with the initial 2.5; haha.I barely complete the 8 reps DB curl.that's is like 15kg weights (excluding the bell itself).HOLY.Try this with tricep kickback and shoulder lateral raise.I got whole arm shaking like it's gonna be broken anytime.LOLx.

depend ur size of plates.so far i estimate the max will be 8 plates.but if u talk abt all 5kg or 10kg plates.maybe 5 or 6 will be the max di.But it's per side. When u can load 4 10kg plates per side, means 80kg... u definitely qualify to get a 20kg plate, load 2 per side.n that's good enugh. and add slowly...

it's so damn hard to increase your load anyway.Very very very hard.

QUOTE(hoxy @ May 22 2011, 12:48 PM)
The initial phase is the beginners gain. Whatever you do... seems like everything works, only question is how fast you going to make that gain.

Once you reach plateau, where your beginners gain ended, thats where the difficult part of working out starts. Everything you do dont make a progress. You are stuck on the weight for a very very long time. It takes patience and determination and focus to end-goal to reach advance level.

Anyway you look at it... the weight price surely going to hike up even more year after year. With patience, in future, you going to lift those heavy weights as well. Might just buy extra plates for future...

I have standard barbell, I can load max to 95kg (include barbell, which is 5kg). Olympic barbell can load up till 130kg (including barbell). Once I have money by end of year, I will make sure I get another 2x20kg, so that I have the option to go to 170kg. Having extra weights help because you dont need to unload, load quite often, it robs energy out of you... especially if you trying to lift very very heavy weights and those extra strength helps~

My recommendation... buy many many plates... smile.gif

Did u see ur barbell bend when u load 90kg on it???

What you said is true. I wish I could go after those rubberised weight, but becos of the price,i just go for the normal iron.

Where you got ur weight? Cheaper than normal retailers??? icon_idea.gif

Ezybar can load max how much weight?Weight plate got 2nd hand value?easy to sell it off if i'm not using?

Normally where u guys buy your weights plates from?jusco tesco giant at pj area always don't have, most is 1 last piece left.

Whats the different between standard barbell and ezy barbell beside ezy good for my wrist? My house don't have much space for an Olympic bar, is there any alternative?shorter straight barbell? Do i need a good quality short straight barbell or just buy anywhere from giant or tesco?

Is there any cheaper alternative then to buy plates etc resistance bands + my current ezybar? If 1 day i lift like u guys 100kg, the plates will be damn expensive, means almost RM1k for the plates....plates got 2nd hand value?

Added on May 23, 2011, 12:22 amAnyone tried b4 gym in the pocket + barbell or dumbell to increase resistance?Anyone did squats or deadlift or bench press with bands b4?
