MGM and Screen Gems Remaking Stephen King’s Carrie



Stephen King is in again, which means it was only a matter of time before studios started raiding his vault. I’m frankly surprise no one has thought to remake “Carrie” until now. The main theme of the story — an outsider bullied at school can’t stand it any longer — would seem to make great fodder.

But how exactly are MGM and Screen Gems going to surprise anyone when pretty much anyone with even a passing knowledge of movies knows how the original “Carrie” ended? After all, it was the ending that really sold the film, and not anything that came before. It was the ENDING that everyone remembers.

Actually, it’s pretty simple: they’re counting on the fact that moviegoing kids nowadays can’t recall anything that happens more than 10 years previously. If you doubt me, let me remind you of all those teens on Twitter who asked, “Who is Bin Laden?” when SEAL Team Six took down the Al-Qaeda leader a few weeks back. Imagine teenagers nowadays trying to remember a movie from 1976 when they can’t even remember a world-changing event like 9/11. Heaven forbid.

So yes, it makes perfect sense that MGM and Screen Gems have decided to remake “Carrie”, first made by Brian De Palma back in 1976. The original, based on the first published work of Stephen King, starred Sissy Spacek as a religious, shy girl who harbors a dark, deadly secret that comes out during the prom. School sucks, but her home life isn’t any better thanks to a fanatical religious mother.

Megan Fox Wants the Carrie Remake



See, this is why very smart actors like Jeremy Renner and Sam Worthington sign up for anything and everything when they find themselves suddenly smoking hot in Hollywood. You never know when that fire is going to get extinguished, and Hollywood is nothing if it’s not fickle and easily distracted by the newest pretty face. Just ask Megan Fox.

Wasn’t it just a few years ago that Fox was the talk of the town? She was up for every role, and had pretty much her pick of what movies she wanted to do. She could say anything, regardless of how stupid it sounded, and people didn’t really mind because, well, she was Megan Fox, and damn, Megan Fox was IT. “Was”, anyway. Nowadays, Fox can’t even generate heat for a movie where she appears in wearing nothing but panties and fake CG wings. (That movie would be “Passion Play”, FYI.)

But hey, maybe a role as a tortured teen with psychic powers can lift our former “It” girl back up? According to Showbiz Spy (h/t STYD), Fox has “told her people to make it happen”. “It” being the role of Carrie in the upcoming/just-announced remake by MGM and Screen Gems, that is.

Fox is currently 25, but cover up those God ugly tattoos she’s ruined herself with (that Marilyn Monroe tattoo on her arm is just beyond hideous), and she could easily play a teenager. Of course, the filmmakers will have to work overtime to make her “homely”, and I’m not sure any amount of make-up can unpout those pouty lips. Let’s face it, the girl just exudes sex appeal. She’ll have to “Monster” herself up pretty hardcore to pass for an “average” teenage girl.

Of course, Fox publicly stating that she wants the role is what a good publicist does for their client. You “float” the idea and hope the studio hears it and grabs onto it. It usually doesn’t happen, but hey, Fox’s “people” are only doing what she pays them. Still, the idea of Megan Fox as Carrie is, if nothing, kind of intriguing.

Carrie Should Really Go to a Hospital…



Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Gabriella Wilde, Alex Russell, Max Topplin, Portia Doubleday, Cynthia Preston, and Connor Price, “Carrie” follows “a sheltered high school girl unleashes her newly developed telekinetic powers after she is pushed too far by her peers.”

Let this be a lesson to you, people prone to pushing your peers around. She might have some groovy telekinetic powers that she unleashes on you. If this poster for “Carrie” is any indication, things will not go well. For you bullying peers out there, anyway.
