Hello everyone, I've tried searching but to no avail did I find an answer. I am currently trying to prepare an aquarium for my guppies which are living in an aquarium filled with moss and its pretty dark I barely see them.
I already prepared a second aquarium with the filter, water placed, simple decorations + a marimo. I am thinking that a UV light may replace the use of anti-chlorine for my guppies but afraid that the light may affect my marimo.
My question here is (1) will the UV light affect my marimo and (2) will it prevent the use of anti-chlorine?
I have yet to purchase the UV light, and I saw that the power is 9 watt at the fish shop. Kindly advice please!

Thank you leeyung for clarifying details with me over PM, you certainly helped me alot! The marimo that I have placed in the aquarium with my guppies seemed unsecure. Some of the guppies are aggresively kissing them! I'm wondering are they kissing or infact, eating.

The other day I was cleaning 2 of my marimos. After squeezing the water out of them I let them float on the surface and sink down on their own.. In an hour, 1 sank to a spot behind my filter and a plant, which is near a corner. The other marimo was still floating so I went to sleep, when I woke up the marimo has sank next to the other one.
Amazing how these 2 marimo of mine always pair together after I clean them and drop them back in the aquarium, must be some kind of relationship between them lol.

QUOTE(leeyung @ May 15 2012, 10:31 AM) With fish is ok, but with turtle, turtle basically will eat whenever it able to bite something and their eating period very continuous Guppies is fine with marimos, but snails, bro, it is a bit dangerous as snail main food is algae and they do breed superb fast, last time I tried out, end up one of my marimo become their sarang! LoL Serious!? What snails are those? My snails invaded my tank when I bought one of those 1.50rm plants from the LFS. Now I can't get them removed 100% they will eventually breed again! The snails in my aquarium... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

QUOTE(LuQEE @ May 15 2012, 11:44 AM) yup much cheaper, but cant eliminate 100%, can be used as a population control though. attach string to a boiled timun/zuccini, then let it sink in the tank, during the night, you can pull it up back after all those big snails swarming on them Haha, thanks for the suggestion! Go curi some cucumber from the fridge later this evening!

QUOTE(leeyung @ Jun 6 2012, 11:31 AM) Usually does not come with a back filter. We call that kind of filter (used by fishman one) as hanging filter. Typical 3 sizes available in market. Spec range according to their flow rate n price do range from RM15-40 depending on the flow rate. The filter comes in package with carbon filter inside. Actually those carbon media has to be changed with biological media right

Emergency! My marimo balls are in bad shape! They are totally brown in color, one of it has little green left. Is there any way to save them? They were out of the tank for 1 month, in a bottle.. I think it was due to lack of nutrients / sunlight that caused this.. Finally back with me, I placed them back in a planted tank hoping they can recover in months time.

I gave it to my girlfriend to keep, thinking it should be easy to maintain, but after a week or two it started turning yellow. And I did not have the time to get it back, so it waited for a month. Now it's back with me, I quickly returned it to the tank.
What is the procedure I should follow to put them in the fridge?

QUOTE(leeyung @ Jun 11 2012, 11:08 PM) Sorry to inform you bro, the marimos already in dying stage, since you mentioned your GF do put the marimos under direct sunlight. I thought we all over here already discussed about this? We shall avoid direct sun light against marimo as UV do kill them Btw, your GF put the marimos under sunlight for how long? whole month? I can't say exactly how long, but I don't think is whole day. I forgotten the fact, because I had it under my light, so I told her to put it under the sun. It is my bad forgetting the basic needs for the marimos I will keep them in the tank hoping the environment can recover them.
