Honda service centre told me that to change the Honda City front and rear disc brake pads, the cost plus installation is around Rm 680++. Wah shocking.gif ...quite expenses!! Can i change it at other workshop like Castrol Service Center? Because they told me that they use brand Bosch brake pads and the cost plus installation just around RM 200++.So big difference the price. Is it safe to use the Bosch brand ? Other than Bosch, any others brand to recommend ? wub.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

worst brake pad u can buy is those with alot of dust. every 2-3 days need to clean rims else look like crap

I use pumatec front n rear. so much more better than stock. Just beware not to use those super grippy ones. your rotors get worn out faster

try to get better brand brake pads. Brake is one of the most important component in your car as it means life and death in some situation. Don't try to save money on that.

Honda brake pads are actually good for daily average usage. Low brake dust, quiet braking.

For once I've tried Brembo and those pads are shitty. It will give out an annoying sound when the car is nearing to halt. After few months, changed back to Honda pads and the sound went away for good.

SC prices are always a rip off! laugh.gif For that price I can get high performance 550 degree Project Mu Japan street pads, surely much better performance than std original pads! Original pads should be just around rm100-200.

Yeah Honda charge almost 1k for brake pad. Proton too for select model in specific Inspira. They give you Akebono pads which is expected to be expensive.

Change outside le. Less than 500. Mine on TRW D-TEC.

Akebono is used by many cars as normal original pads. Same case with Advics from Japan for example. At most, they cost probably just over rm200, no where near rm400-500. Those costing rm400 or above are usually higher performance aftermarket street pads that can handle higher temperature with less fading, for example those from Project Mu Japan, Endless, EBC, etc2.

TRW is China brake pad hence very cheap (can get below rm100 per pair), seems decent but very dusty.

Scam
Honda 3s will never reveal the real brans, everything is Honda brand even on from other brands.

I'm using Fuji brakes which OEM to Honda Japan, price under 150 for front, used to be 90 but inflation due to weak ringgit and over the years I guess.

Hehe 200 is the starting price for performance pads
300 should be 500deg
400 should be 800deg

Unless a Japanese supercar like GTR or NSX one wouldn't really need to spend above 500 for pads

1k doh.gif doh.gif . But what car bro?.

My brother just changed brake pads 3 months ago at Kah Motor. Rm750, Honda Insight 2011. Never changed since buy new 6 years ago. Lol.

Ya, price maybe cut throat, But so convenience la since can complete asap.

But if got excess time, can buy sendiri outside and ask any workshop or tyre workshop pasang. Way more cheaper bro. Can easily got half than that. Lol.

But it always up to ppl bro. I dont even want to said ppl change parts at service centre is stupid since I see maybe there are too busy with their time and want to finish everything in one day.

And ya, I service my city at both Ban Lee Hin and Kah Motor. Some parts which I feels too expensive, I ask them dont tukar for me, I outsourced and pasang luar. Lol.

I think, both same la, charge a bit premium compare to outside, but I still service at Honda sc since they service according to schedule.

Outside some workshop oni change engine oil, oil filter which made me even worried doh.gif .

is your honda city still under warranty TS?

if not, then do outside cheaper.

but if under warranty, can we still use 3rd party or do outside? will it temper with Honda warranty?

thanks!

general ct should be less than RM150 (parts only) and bendix metal king around RM150 (parts)

I tried to find in Penang Island for Bendix but failed to find one (via google).
The only alternative can go for is Bosch. Is it good?

You can buy bendix online, on shopee.
By the way, the brake dust seems to be improved, after two months or so for me

Scam
Honda 3s will never reveal the real brans, everything is Honda brand even on from other brands.

I'm using Fuji brakes which OEM to Honda Japan, price under 150 for front, used to be 90 but inflation due to weak ringgit and over the years I guess.

Bro,
Where do you get these Fuji brakes pads?

I managd to get Metal King Titanium for rm220 with installation in Penang. Already 1 week and there have squeezing sound when brake. Should I worry?

p/s: the price too good to be true.

I'm no expert. But mine did the same. Usually its silent but when it rains or after car wash (wet), the sound is more prominent.

But my previous stock pad also like that, just not that loud though.

Could always buy the pads from lazada or a part shop and do them yourself. After you take off the wheel should only be 1-2 bolts and either squeeze down the brake piston or twist it down. (haven't looked up which it is for a Honda city. )

Disk break pads should only take like 10-15 mins per wheel once you have the wheel off.

Drums are a whole other story. Depending on the car.

Depend on your driving style. I had my pads on my P1 from beginning till now 140k km still looking good without much wear and tear.

Mechanic and I had it removed to confirm it is in good condition and both are stunned it is still gooding.

I driving Honda City 2014 model. Honda Service Centre told me front brake pad cost RM594. I'm shock when my friend told me usually cost around RM150 only.

If I change it outside, will it void my car warranty?

Please avoid bendix. Dirty and noisy as hell.
I'm gonna try akebono next. But this brake pad I use 1 year only. Abit sien to change so soon.

By the way. I do not know what went wrong, but my brake seems to produce some noise. Like those you always hear on old cars and motorcycle braking.

Any ideas? Brake pad for all changed more that 1 year but less than 2 years. Front bendix, back dunno as get from workshop.

Did you get Bendix metal king? Then Yup, it's dusty and noisy. The bendix general CTs are better in my opinion. Brake dust takes a while to form on the wheels and it's silent.

Sorry, I meant bendix CTs are better in terms of quietness and noise. Brake feel wise, i can't tell the difference between these and my originals.

Get ceramic brakepads if you can. It is more expensive but it produce less dust and last longer. I am looking at getting TRW Dtec. Seems like lots of positive review from users.

I just changed both my front brake disc and brake pad of my Honda city Gm6. The new brake disc is from Honda and the brake pad is from trw dtec. When driving in low speeds and applying abit of brake (not fully), i can hear a fine metal screeching sound at the front right side. I have been driving a few days and the sound is still there. Is this normal?

not sure if the installer done it correctly.by right if both are new , shouldn't have that sound . maybe go back to the installer and ask him to check.

I only heard the screeching soon when my brake disc is uneven . not going to change my brake disc if it didnt affect my braking distance and safety

btw , ur trw dtec part no. is GDB3375DT OR GDB7786DT?

Do u mean the red plate with the trw wording on it?
I also bought mine at PH auto seapark for rm90.

Actually my brake is working fine but just the screeching sound is kinda annoying and i afraid it will damage my new Honda brake disc. I probably will get it check as u advised. Thanks!

I never done that . all the time I watch them when they doing it . the mechanic told me by right it should have 4 brakepad pin to secure left and right brakepad . but by the time I open the box I only saw 2 pin . but it wont affect the safety and the usage .

I m going to check my myvi dtec and see if it's got 2 pin as well only

RM680 is really an absurd price to pay given that brake pad materials are cheap and the labour to install it is relatively easy

My trw brakepad still squeak on my Honda city and it has scratched my newly bought brake disc rotor. Hingan quote me rm440 for the front brake pads and Jyunsei quote me rm380. So i bought from Jyunsei and had to skim my disc rotor. So far no sound. Probably will stick with original brake pads, zzz..

Skim disc rotor means reducing the thickness. Are the new disc rotors same thickness as the ori rotors? If not that might explain the scratch.

I bought both Honda front disc rotor from Hingan. I didn't measure it though. But the metal screeching sound occur on the front disc rotor side and it lasted for three weeks. Before i changed the brakepads to ori, i had to skim my newly front disc rotor coz it was heavily scratched by the trw brakepad. I had no luck with trw coz others dont seems to have this problem. After switch to original honda brake pads and skim my Honda front disc rotor, now no more metal screeching sound.

I also had squealing sound on low speed. Check with two different workshop foreman, they said most likely is the brake pads causing it coz my rotor is new. I also don't know la, lol..

Most probably that's anti-seize. It's to prevent rust to stick on to the brake pads and causing uneven movement on the brake pads. So far I have seen most workshop does not use anti-seize.

I also just bought n install the trw brake pad on the accord. So far good and only done it at auto marques pj.

My friend also happens to have a trw pad, but bought online had a different feeling. I guess is it due to fake item?

Trw pad front rm170 vs honda sc rm700. Used the original rm700 have a vibrating issue on accord during a hard braking at karak highway. Already send sc and skim once under sc

Vibration reduce or dissapeared after use trw pad?. Or same?

I also want to change into aftermarket one. Today drive 160kmh, fast2 slow down to 110kmh, got free hand massage. Lel. Only vibrate when do hard braking, if normal brake not vibrate. Really unpleasent feeling.

My case, last time vibration kaw2, went to sc, sc said not able to claim warranty until i change the pad (rm700). Ok proceed n they only perform skimmed services under warranty.

After 1k km, vibration back, went to sc, thought can claim rotor warranty, they ask normal warranty claim if after 3x skimmed only can claim. Check online the rotor price, not that too expensive until sc give hard time to claim.

Go to trw brand, ask the shop to check how is the rotor, they check n said ok, then proceed with trw pad. No vibration even hard braking down the karak. Now on 2 times trw pad brand.

The original is totally not good in my case.

Sorry for reviving an old thread but my Honda SC told me that my front brake pads need to be changed and costs RM580.

Is there a reliable place in PJ I could go to for cheaper price? I know it's cheap to get original from Shopee and all but I'd still need to install it right? haha

Is your car still under warranty? If yes, please change at SC and get slaughtered. You don't have a choice.
If car is already out of warranty, just go to any workshop and change. Price range around 200-300 depending on what brand you buying. Good OEM brakepad such as Bendix is quite good.

my 2 cents on brake pads.. The original one is a very good all rounder. decent bite, decent wear, decent noise levels rotor friendly (most of the times, cant say the same for some conti cars)

about 100ish after market pads, is garbage, poor bite, some last very long some dont, some rotor friendly some arent.

those better ones like your bendix ultimate. good bite, noise levels sometimes higher, not rotor friendly, wear rate very high (comes with better bite)

ive tried many brands in the market.. most of the 100ish ones are really bad and i wont bother with them.. wanna be safe, original ones will tick all the boxes an original brake pads requirements

You should try Akebono.. I bought it for RM110 front pads and it performs just as good as the original and has minimal brake dust.

I second this. I've tried many OEM brake pads (Bendix, Brembo, Trestor etc) but none as good all rounder as original. Aside from the poor performance, they also release a lot of brake dust compare to the original.
