install any tint is already illegal
so if u wanna pass them...install something that is not too dark..and say it's OEM tint
and FYI..DARK doesn't equal to filtering alot of heat and UV
u need to check the brand and the UV rejection rate and IR rejection rate
not how dark the tint is

one of my friend had 80% on his side mirrors, and 90% on his back. it was freakin dark, from outside cannot even see inside even if you go near. he got stopped by police that same night itself. but uptill now still going fine, roadblocks then have to roll down window. feels like its at night inside the car

50% for front windscreen? you'll have trouble driving at night for sure.. JPJ regulations aren't for sucking your money, they are for safety. Too dark on the windscreen will give reduce your visibility.

Kinda agree.... it is gonna be difficult driving at night
Unless you have perfect eyesight and used to the dark

Mine is probably 60% 'telus cahaya' for front and around 35-40% for my side ... driving at night at dark stretch or dark carpark sometimes is quite scary .... >.>

So far i passed most roadblock without any issue.. sometimes i do wind down the window if i have passenger in my car n ask them to smoke whistling.gif but most of the time i just pass without much problem though (polis, traffic jpj).. Maybe it is a trend now for white car to have darker tint.. so they are more lenient .. doh.gif

cheap or expensive, make sure the front is more than 70% VLT, and other windows 50% VLT.
of course, we cannot be sure about the spec, but at least if JPJ kacau, the shop will be responsible - you can claim from them or let they settle the summons for you, simply because they claim that their tint is 'JPJ approved'..

No tint is JPJ approved.

Next, u must check what's the VLT of ur current windscreen. Sure all tint shops will tell u their product is 'approved'.

What they don't tell u is, certain car models, the ori windscreen already has a VLT of 80%-90%, so when they apply the -30% tint on to it, ur windscreen's VLT became 50%-60% which will definately fail the JPJ's test when u encounter them on the road.

JPJ should just allow dark tint for sake of HOT temperature at our country.....its damn HOT out there!

btw...mine is front windscreen is 31%, rear - side screens are 21%....so far from inside u can see crystal clear...just from outsiders they cant see me!

Dude...HEAT <> LIGHT. If your IR level is low, you put 90% dark also no use. You can have light tint, but high ir/uv level to prevent heat from coming in.

my style, i install cheapo tint, very dark 1, for only RM80 for the whole car... in 3 - 4 months, i will change it since it will easily fade out.. if i encounter police n they wanna issue my tint, i will voluntarily tear my tint (konon insaf)... bcoz later i will change it again too... hehehehehe

my reason for doing that (dark tint): i hav prob wif my eyes, i cant take too much light or it will trigger my migrain... i cant use shades/sunglasses also bcoz my eyes also sensitive to degree changes, will also trigger my migrain... but i luv to drive, so dis is my solution... hehehehehe... in hot sunny day, feels like night... but when i come out from the car, quickly i hav to cover my eyes... haiiizzzz....

If you have medical condition, you can get a cert from doctor and go to JPJ to get approval for darker tint...this is what my boss did also. nod.gif

anyone can help me?
i thinking of installing car tint
http://www.everyday.com.my/coupons/jb/wcool.htm
so i went to buy this coupon.

but after reading several threads in LYN, i cannot understand the vendor, he has black 50%, 35%, 25%, 5%..
so far, you guys had been saying front driver sidescreen minimum 70VLT, behind side screen 50VLT.
so what should i tell the vendor.. front 25%? back 50%?
is it too dark and too tinted?

thanks.. but i am still confused.
in the package he is giving 5 windows, so i think its 4 side windows and maybe at the back window.
so i should ask 50% for side windows?
i reckon when he said black 50% or 35% or 25% or 5%..
does he meant 50% VLT, 65% VLT, 75% VLT, 95 VLT?

another burning question;
in singapore, alot of cars have a lighter tone for front-side window, and darker tone for backpassenger-side window.. can it apply in malaysia too?

Hi guy out here. My car come with free Vkool Elite but its way too clear and feel unable to open my eyes while driving at noon time. So, i decided to add another layer of black tint. The tint shop keep told me that tat is actually not a dark tint. But holy shit, after done 2 layer of tint form together, It is really dark! Somehow did affect a bit during night. I guess i wanna peel off the front windscreen and redo the tinted... Bloody hell kena tint shop tipu...

yup, 5 windows is for side windows + back window.
i saw he stated there you can opt for 50%, 35%, 25%, or 5%. so you just choose one of these.
50% means 50% VLT, 35% means 35% VLT (which is darker), 25% means 25% VLT (which is even darker), and 5% means 5% VLT (which is the darkest among the 4).

for your burning question: a lot of cars in msia are doing the same way too. Just that I'm not sure whether JPJ will kacau you or not. Just do the same tone for all your windows which is 50% VLT. Other than 50%, all the percentage mentioned above are illegal since it's darker than allowed % of VLT smile.gif

so you wanna tear it off? well, if you are tearing then you gonna tear both layers of film.. it's kinda impossible to tear just one layer without damaging the other layer. If you are okay with side windows, just tear the windscreen tint and go any tint shop to re-tint the windscreen. If you are not okay with side windows, I think you might just have to tear everything off and redo your tint as I felt your current % of VLT does not pass JPJ too. I guess the shop didn't tipu you, it's becoz any 2 layers of "not dark" tint being together, they would be "very dark" tint. Go for high % of VLT film for second layer.

nope.. you have to see whether it gives high rejection of infrared (IR) or not~ VLT doesn't affect the price usually.
The higher the % rejection of IR, the higher the price. VLT 50%, but if IR is low (I have checked your link, they didn't state whether how high % is the IR rejection), you will still feel hot with that film.. IR above 70% or 80% would be good as it rejects large amount of heat, but however, if will cause disturbance to GPS and Smart Tag users.

maybe it affects, maybe it won't. This is very subjective until you try it out. lol. laugh.gif I was a RF engineer trainee (a job of telecommunication field), I've learned that the signal strength of a device varies when you put the device on the dashboard facing upward and facing downward. Just put your garmin near to the windscreen will do~

lol...u tint ur car roof also la? just imagine u put a metal box under the sunlight..put it a few minutes, then open it and feel the heat inside. the box dont even have a glass window too. so that goes same to ur car. the heat doesnt necessarily went thru ur windows, but from the metal surface too. biggrin.gif
