Recently i went to test drive 1.6 6-speed.
I found the gear shifting is not as smooth as 4-speed, you can feel the jerk while 4-speed no jerk when shift at RPM 2.5k-4k. The SA told me to upshift at 5000RPM to ease the jerk... but we don't always drive at 5k rpm, right?

yes, i also find it less jerk if u shift at 4k-5k..but i only do this during uphill,on normal drive i usually just put it in D.

Even with D mode the 6-speeder is still jerky if autogear shift below 4.5k rpm.

conventional gearbox mmg camtu... nak smooth kena pakai CVT...

4-speed version a lot smoother! Cant feel the jerk. Not sure if 4 speed gearbox already very matured while 6 speed still new.

I suspect it's because the 4-speeder uses an older, heavier torque converter while the 6-speeder uses a lighter TC. Just a thought smile.gif Furthermore, the 6-speeder is a Hyundai in-house design while the older GB was by Aisin or some other third party manufacturer. Probably still not matured as you say.

But what's this jerking that you guys are talking about? How come my 6-speeder is smooth as silk? Whenever the GB changes up the ECU is supposed to feather the throttle even if our foot is stepping on it. IMO this GB is even smoother than my previous Civic FD's 5-speeder.

We have a 1.6 4-speed at home. During the test drive of 1.6 6-speed, i tried to accelerate moderately without flooring the pedal, when gear change, we could clearly feel the jerk where it does not exist in 4-speed. Later we switched to shiftronic mode and up shift using pedal shift, same jerking was there. There were 3 person in the car that felt it, including the SA that advise to shift at high RPM to ease the jerk.
Another thing to mention is we did not notice 6-speed accelerates any faster than 4-speed and pulling/torque is about the same.
