It's not entirely true, some with diploma still can get RM5k added with 2 - 5years of experience but I'm in the I.T field so I am not entirely sure with engineering.
*
RM5k with 5 yrs experience is engineer.

Diploma, unless very outstanding & capable. But most company would have a salary structure and engineering cant fetch that high.

If you perform and gave a big contribution in the company you are working for, you will be able to get up over RM3k. I doubt you can get RM5k if you are to leave your company at RM1.7k. It is too impossible, unless the company belongs to your relative or close friend punya bapa...

depends on your job scope as well, im doing specification/estimation/quotation/such in architecture related.
office work, come and go sharp, not much pressure, and quite free and flexible schedule. most important is boss are best i met so far.
but 5 years 1.7k is a little bit low, maybe 2.5k-3k.
my senior was paid 3k salary, working for 9 years, with a degree. but please note that he never change job before and the starting salary suppose to be lower last time.

nope, more to technical/support/admin.
its like to determine which type of lock/hinges/handle/door closer that are suitable to use in each type of door depends on location for those government project like lrt extension, etc.

i suppose it is something like sales coordinator or sales support.

actually you don't need to ask so much, the company you are going to interview will sure asking for your previous payslip, and i think they won't give you too much increase as you got 1.7k now~
you won't get increase like 1.7k to 2.4k~3k, you will only get 1.7k * 15~30% = 1955~2200~

Look at competitors. See if they are in need of people. Competitors pay big bucks for able and skillful employees. Hop to the next job! That's the fastest way to see you growing on your salary figures. If you take your RM1700 salary slip (which is a norm nowadays requested by empoyers) I would most probably offer you RM2,210 (30%). So, hop around for fastest growth in salary.

Actually TS can always justify for the higher increement for the rental and higher living cost... I believe the KL company will take that into consideration... From 1.7k + RM400(rental)+RM600(transport+food)+RM300 as increement? The breakdown is just for ur info and depend on how TS negotiate with the company.

Going by just qualifications and experience alone isn't a conclusive gauge of salary bracket.

Need to consider what career milestones have you achieved? Someone who have a good track record of achieving targets and being able to make a difference will definitely be able to command a higher pay.
