dear sifus,

my current humble and not at all impressive set-up:

head unit - fac stock (accord 2010)
Comp - Focal Access 165 A1
Amp - Audio System F4-240

question:

a friend recently gave me a pre-amp (bostwick), so i am wondering the following:

1. can i go active with my current set-up?
2. If can / can not, what other things required for me to go active?

Thanks icon_question.gif

1. what are the advantages?

2. is it more adviseable just to go passive?

1. to help you better... we need to at least know what model is your given pre-amp... a picture of the knobs would also help...

2. What you need to go active, is a electronics crossover with at least one output for the following, high, mid(bandpass), low. the wider the adjustment capabilities is a plus point, just in case... other availabilities is using a processor, like the Alpine PXA-H701 and sorts...

3. advantages is that you could do a fine tunings easily with just a dial of knob or input the values... able to control individual range's(High, Mid, Low) gain level.

4. both active and passives have their own pros and cons... while active provides easy accessibility compared to passives, but it invites you to keep trying even when you got your settings right, and in the end, not knowing which one sounds best, sometimes it makes you stray away and got lost... biggrin.gif

Actually, I wanted to ask... Have you enjoy enough of your passive setup before hooping over to active?

Anyway reason that you want to go active?

My preference is always improve slowly... further more, your HU is still stock. Not sure if you go active now, wonder what are the differences that you can feel.
