QUOTE(yngwie @ Jul 19 2011, 07:37 AM) kazekage_09@ Thanks for your info. My car is MyVi 2010 and milage about 40000 now. The front tyres quite worn out that why I interchange them with back tyres. Done quite a reading and many suggest that it due to wheel bearing. I guess need to go to workshop again to find out. your front tyre is probably of directional (V) shaped tread or tread quite worn out. this particular tread pattern tend to be quite noisy than it's symmetric or asymmetrical tread pattern, even more when the tyre's tread is wear out to 60% or so. also, if your car is more than 5 years old, those slightly worn out arm bushes may contribute to it. try to jack up both of the front tyre, put to free gear and spin the tyre, also, hold right / left and try to pull out a little, if there is no free play(while pulling) / no humming sound( spinning), your wheel bearing is fine. One more question, is this condition can become dangerous if not treated fast enough? Because I traveled ~110 km perday |

QUOTE(yngwie @ Jul 19 2011, 08:05 PM) kazekage_09@ yngwie@if you're on stock wheels, wheel bearing could last for more than 50k km mileage. if the problem only occurred when you swap the rear tyres to the front, the noised is caused by the worn out tyres' tread and not wheel bearing. since you travel a lot, replacing the front tyre with new ones might be a better solution than replacing the wheel bearing. You still remember right I'd said that I just swap the rear tyres (which is still in good shape) to the front (which is quite worn out). Then I start heard a humming sound when driving and get louder as the speed increases. Last Thursday I had changed the worn out tyres (which is Goodyear) to brand new Continental tyres and swap them back to front. I also ask the mechanic to do balancing, alignment and check the brake and the absorber. Guess what, the humming sound is still there but not as loud as before. I also try speeding until 110km/h then free gear to hear whether the humming sound still there and it is there = =" So in your opinion, does this problem originated from the wheel bearing? |

QUOTE(yngwie @ Jul 25 2011, 08:28 PM) coolkwc@ my car is 2010 and my ride is not bumpy.. it just the humming sound but it is now slower after changing new tyres.that one you seen on the proton door side. your tires pressure is fine. perhaps, you need to wait a little longer until the tires fully run-in. kazekage_09@ on the earlier reply, i posted the basic method to identify if it was the wheel bearing that caused the noise. anyway, to be more detailed, how old is your car? was your ride tend to be quite bumpy lately? since car is not around, kinda hard to pinpoint the reason. am not a mechanic either. just sharing a knowledge. if it was the wheel bearing problem, the humming sound will be noticeable even at 30km/h. other than wheel bearing. worn out or hardened lower arm bushes may caused the humming sound. your engine mounting is fine? and yes at 30km/h already can notice the sound. about the engine mounting I have no idea, will have a check later. So, this weekend I plan to go again to workshop. So what area do I need to ask them to check? |

QUOTE(yngwie @ Jul 26 2011, 07:25 PM) kazekage_09@ I'm not quite sure but I think this model:for a year old car, bushes and engine mounting rarely giving problem. down to tires choice and wheel bearing. which tires brand and model you bought? perhaps, wait a little longer until your new tires fully run in. coolkwc@ to get the accurate reading, check the tires' pressure when the tires is cold. ie; morning or only driven for a kilometer. anyway, 250kpa is too high for comfort. reef_d@ hr2 and v8 sux. v8 sometimes caused inaccurate alignment thus tires require swapping. better go for more expensive hankook's v12 or s1evo. 195/55R15 Continental Comfort Contact 1 - RM175 |

Hi all, I have many questions in my mind right now. Hopefully someone can enlighten me about it.
I am currently driving MyVi SE Manual 2010 and mileage about 40000 km already. Ok, about last month, I noticed 2 things about my tyres, (1) my front tyres had worn out already and (2) there are a humming sound came from my back tyres. So I changed the front tyres to Continental and back tyres to Silverstone. The mechanic said the humming sound is came from the uneven tyres surface resulting from the old absorbers. So I changed the both back absorbers with new one. 1 absorber cost RM 80 so both cost me RM160. But after that when I drove the car, it not smooth anymore. Feel really bumpy and "keras". 1. Is this bumpy and "keras" feeling is from my cheap absorbers or is it from the new tyres? (Maybe new tyres a bit hard? I don't know lol) 2. If it is from my absorbers, do you recommend me to change to new more branded and good quality absorbers or just use this first? 3. can I know the brand and price of decent absorbers currently in the market? 4. Best for me to change the absorbers (if recommended) at the Perodua Service Centre or just any workshop? 5. One more thing, when I going down a hill, when braking, the stearing will vibrate.. What are the possible causes? Is it the braking problem? Also when driving in high speed then braking, the car will "tersentak-sentak" one. |

Good morning guys,
I have few questions to ask. I noticed my left back tyre become uneven already, can hear the hissing sound. I using myvi btw. 1. Is it still safe to continue driving using uneven tyre? The tyre tread depth is still ok. 2. If not safe, do I need to change both of back tyres? because both of the back tyres are different brands. One is Conti and one is Silverstone. The uneven tyre is Silverstone. I believed it become uneven because of me using different brands. Please correct me if im wrong. 3. So last one which tyres you guys recommend? Think of getting Michelin Silverstone will not in my list anymore. Last time both of my back tyres are from SS but after using only about 2-3 month, one of them become "bengkak" and I changed it to Conti. Then now become uneven pulak |

QUOTE(malowar @ Feb 9 2013, 01:06 AM) Hi, imho, 1. May lead to unsafe condition in the long run 2. Normally, if you are referring to the tyre uneven wear @ 'tayar makan tepi' better to - check air pressure - check balancing & alignment But since you mentioned both rear tyres of different brand / model, possibly uneven wear due to different tread depth, tread pattern, treadwear, etc. for each tyre even though both are same size. Thus normally recommended to change same brand / model, both rear tyres, both front tyres or all 4 tyres at one time. 3. If original size 175/65R14, more to comfort & quiteness like - Michelin Energy XM2 - Toyo Teo Plus - Continental ComfortContact5 - GT Radial Champiro Eco - Continental PremiumContact2 QUOTE(Karenalvin @ Feb 9 2013, 04:24 AM) please change both your rear tyres. always use the same tyres on the left and right side. different tyres perform differently and using different tyres can result in unpredictable behaviour of the car which is not something you want Thank you guys for your input and advices. I think I gonna go with XM2. Will go change this weekend |
