Hi guys. Want some of your advice and opinions.

My front tires already worn out and my rear tire still good. Stock tires are Silverstone ns500 Kruizer. Can I change only the front tires as I am currently on a very tight budget. If so, any recommendations for 195/60 R15?
*
Yes you can change only the front tyres if the rear are still okay. But you must change both the front tyres, i.e. 1 pair / 2 front tyres.

However, note that most tyre websites recommend that the new tyres at the rear but most tyre shops will recommend that the new tyres go in front.

Recommendation - Budget is Silverstone. A bit higher, you can consider Conti Comfort Contact 5. Would not recommend that you take China brand tyres.

Performance

Goodyear GD5
Bridgestone RE002

In-Between

Yokohama C-Drive 2

You can check out the prices at the Tyre Price section.

GT Radial Champiro HPY - 215/45/17 for RM320 at Quicksave (Aug 12). reviewed by my sifu VR2Turbo as very good and value for money.

So, I can run different types of brand/tread between front and rear?
*
Yes, you can. But you should use the same type of tyres, i.e. Comfort Based and Comfort Based. I have used Goodyear NCT5 at the back and Conti CC5 in the front.

Hi what does it mean for performance?

I am looking for good grip on wet surface, especially during heavy rain. what do you think about the goodyear direction 5? Are they any good? PS3 what is the lowest price in town?

Thanks.

Most tyres perform well in the dry and in a straight line.

What differentiates normal tyres and performance tyres is how well they 'perform; during high speed corners and especially in the wet / raining.

Under our current Tyre Sidewall Readings, most tyres are rated Traction 'A'. However, some performance tyres are rated Traction 'AA" such as Micheline PS3, Goodyear GD5 and Hankook V12. For more info on how to read the sidewall, go to

http://goodyear.com.my/labs/education_reading.asp

Michelin PS3 seems to have very good reviews, but a bit more pricey.

Goodyear GD5 also has very good reviews, esp in the Wet but being a 'Directional' tyre, it can be more noisy after its worn down. Same goes for Hankook V12 but Hankook V12 is cheaper than Goodyear GD5 and hence, its very value for money.

You can refer to http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?sh...1690&start=1690 for a general guide of tyre prices. However, its always best to call / shop around to ask for prices and always check the Manufacture Date

I see. Thanks for the heads up. But been reading articles said it is not recommended to use different brands between them. Is there any downside applying it? hmm.gif

Plus, can reccommend tyres that are compatible with Silverstone NS500?
*
Ideally of course, all 4-tyres should be the same model. However, this would mean that you are stuck with the same tyre model unless you change all 4-tyres at the same type. But why would u want to change 2-tyres that are still in good working condition that are within the safe manufacturing date, i.e. within 4-years.

Hence, many ppl change 2-tyres at once only and some try out different models. If you check out feedback from user, most have not reported any issue when running with different tyres at the font and back. However, I would advice to at least stick to the same category of tyres, i,e, say Goodyear NCT5 in front and CC5 at the rear. Both are comfort based tyres.

I would not personally advice to use say Goodyear GD5 in the front and CC5 at the rear as the GD5 is a 'performance based' tyre which handles and gives different ride feedback / characteristics from a Comfort Based Tyre.

Silverstone NS5000 seems to be a comfort based tyre. Many choices based on Budget such as

Goodyear Assurance Series or Duraplus Series
Conti CC5
Yokohama A-Drive

What is the acceptable manufacturing date when we purchase new tyres? 6 months? 9 months?
*
Depends on size and brand and whether its locally made or imported.

Most popular brands / sizes such as say 195/55/15 I would say max at 6-mths

Perhaps less popular sizes or models up to 1-year.

If its more than 1-year, i,e, 2-years or more, make sure u get a good discount cos u can only use like max 3-years as it would have reached close to the safe zone of 5-years from manufacturing date
