Lol...this argument had been around for so long  laugh.gif .
No matter what size of tyres you use, you speedometer is always correct la. Its just that when you compare to the actual speed (maybe speed trap for example), yours is not accurate anymore. That is why recalibration is important
but not many people can do or do it .

Example" More than 4% upgrade, your speedometer will show about 4% different compare to stock tyres and actual world. But you car speedometer is still showing your correct car's speed(unless recalibration done after changes) as it generate the reading from gearbox or drive shaft rotation  tongue.gif
The changes in tyres diameter  affect the speedometer reading due to rev per miles different but no matter what, the speedometer reading generated always follow your car's speed which may not tally with real world speed.

how much for recalibration? unsure.gif

Recently ive changed 4 of my tires at a michelin auth dealer in ipoh. I changed to pilot sport 3. Upon checking the manufacturing date they were manufactured on week 24 2011. Am I being cheated with them selling old tyres ?

imho you should get further discount.

using 2011 tires are fine since they aren't really susceptible to nature's abuse (assuming they are kept indoors all the time within the shop)

more so if you drive a lot and aggressive that your tire treads wear off before the tires age (2-3 years time)

Hi,

Is it ok to change the new tyres with manufacturing date half a year old? Should ask for further discount?

if only half a year old usually people won't entertain for discounts.

do note that it also takes at least 2-3 months for tires that aren't made locally to arrive to shops.

Guys, I need help choosing which tyre model, my local shops offer these 3 brand for 195/50r15:
a) Bridgestone My-02
b) Falken ZE912
c) Pirelli P7

I'm looking for best grip. Shop owner told me the Bridgestone My-02 is soft compound, I read Pirelli P7 has great dry braking distance.

Which one is the best?

They also talked about softer tyres have worse lifespan, how worse are they?
I know normal tyres can last around 30k-60k kms. What's the lifespan for grippy tyres like potenza re002/s001, pirelli zero rosso for comparison?

Of the 3, ZE-912 look the deal. MY-02 isn't grippy. P7 maybe tailored for European road...lol just kidding but I had a bad experience with new Pirelli before that is why don't bother about the brand already.
PS3 and re002 is decent too.
Soft tyres may has better grip and less noise compare to harder compound but tread wear out faster.
RE001 is good enough for 25k km but if you always travel long distance, could be shorter.

Good for relax driving style on daily ride. Not recommended for fast driver as traction is not up to the mark.
Braking distance is further be in dry or wet. Good thing tread last longer.

Without frequent hard braking, you can aim for 80k km to be safe. Maybe can stretch for another 20k km extra or more but better be save la.
One with Assurance Fuel Max label is a low rolling resistance tyre known to save fuel, with the help of right foot of course laugh.gif
