Guys, i will be going to lowyat later to survey some laptops..would be great if i can get some suggestions from u guys before i go..i would prefer sumthing that is

+ below RM2k
+ 14-15" screen would be sufficient (
+ usage will be mainly on moderate MS office multi tasking (work) as well as watching movies, series etc

This will be my first laptop and kinda blur deciding what to get..any brands to avoid or 'better' brands out there?

So far ive googled and found the

Acer 4750 2412g50
ASUS X42DE-VX090
Dell vostro (cant remember the series)

Btw, for the processors, are the intel 'i' series necessarily better than the previous dual core?

Oh and a good sleek looking laptop would be a plus point tongue.gif

was just wondering, if i were to take the

Dell Vostro 3450 N34506

2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2410M processor 2.30 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz
14.0" HD WLED Anti-Glare (1366x768)
4GB 1 DIMM (4GB x1) DDR3 1333Mhz
500GB Hard Drive, 7200 RPM
Intel® HD Graphic

will the absence of a graphic card affect my internet surfing or watching HD movies etc?or is there a better laptop with similar price..

For your true "reliability", get one with the best customer care like Dell

Currently ive shortlisted the dell inspiron N4110(RM2299) and the Dell inspiron N4050 (RM2099). Ive slighlty increased my budget to cater for an i5 processor but its already giving me a headache with acer now coming into consideration sad.gif

Wow, its good to see that they've implemented llano in the Dv6 rather than the G6  thumbup.gif

Actually I did, i was considering the Vostro 3450 but somehow it seems to look more expensive with less stuff..no dedicated graphic card also..cant understand the difference in price..

laugh.gif Try not to judge a laptop based on the CPU and GPU only...
I've reviewed a Vostro 3450 recently, and its better than the Inspiron/Inspiron R series  nod.gif
*
Haha..what else do i need to consider? thought those were the main stuffs..

Read some reviews but no direct comparison..was wondering what does the vostro has that the inspiron doesnt..i dont mind getting the vostro though

Vostros are comparatively more expensive than competing Inspiron units... but then its more user friendly with matte surfaces, matte screen etc. Inspirons are rather glossy, not very nice if you don't like fingerprints and smudges on your laptop nod.gif
Certain Vostro units have backlid keyboard as well~
Saw some guy selling full spec-ed Vostro 3450 (3 years warranty) in Garage Sales at very cheap prices the last time I checked hehe~

lolx... cpu and gpu important yah...

but rmb... other factors such as comfortable keyboard.. non reflective screen.... overall body build.... shape.... weight.... and etc etc , counts.. haha
no point having state of the art gung ho lappy that u everyday sulk at cz it's ugly, or so relfective till cant see the screen properly, or the surface is so sensitive fingerprints are everywhere.. haha and the list goes on. lolx
thatz why.. afta shortlisted... go hav a look look, a touch touch... haha.... will make alot of diff!!

Problem with dell is its so hard to find their models around..lowyat yesterday also only had the inspiron line ups..didnt manage to get a look at the vostro..

And sumhow, the dell website shows the vostro 3450 with i5 but when clicked to customize, there is only an i3 option..weird..
Vostro 3450

Last but not least, does the vostro only has the upperhand in terms of looks and ergonomics?any advantages performance-wise against the inspiron 4110?

You're just not familiar with the website only haha, no worries bro, you'll get the hang of it soon nod.gif
When you 1st log in Dell's website, you get to choose home laptops or business laptops. Choosing Home will lead you to, as the name suggests, normal consumer laptops. If you choose business, then you'll be directed to Vostro, Lattitude and Precision lineups nod.gif

Performance-wise, depends on your configuration. If the specs (CPU + GPU) is the same, then of course the performance would be similar laugh.gif
Vostro units, for the same CPU and GPU, will be more expensive....
*
Haha then how to justify to myself which one to buy..i think i should stop looking at other brands or i wont be able to decide which laptop to get.. sad.gif

Don't be too focused on the CPU and GPU and you'll be alright nod.gif
The most important thing is to go for the laptop that you like most, not necessarily the one that is most bang-for-buck smile.gif
Hence, you might want to check out the real models and test them 1st before making the final decision

Haha ive actually narrowed down my choice to tge inspiron 14r(4110) and the vostro 3450 (with i5)..first i thought the vostro was lighter or smaller. Turns out its the same dimension as the inspiron..weight also same..

So my solution?call dell and ask them to explain to me what the vostro has that the inspiro doesnt..is a matt screen worth the extra ill be paying..

Btw there is a dell store in mid valley?i can check out the physical units there?
