Problem with dell is its so hard to find their models around..lowyat yesterday also only had the inspiron line ups..didnt manage to get a look at the vostro..

And sumhow, the dell website shows the vostro 3450 with i5 but when clicked to customize, there is only an i3 option..weird..
Vostro 3450

Last but not least, does the vostro only has the upperhand in terms of looks and ergonomics?any advantages performance-wise against the inspiron 4110?
*
You're just not familiar with the website only haha, no worries bro, you'll get the hang of it soon nod.gif
When you 1st log in Dell's website, you get to choose home laptops or business laptops. Choosing Home will lead you to, as the name suggests, normal consumer laptops. If you choose business, then you'll be directed to Vostro, Lattitude and Precision lineups nod.gif

Performance-wise, depends on your configuration. If the specs (CPU + GPU) is the same, then of course the performance would be similar laugh.gif
Vostro units, for the same CPU and GPU, will be more expensive....

1. Brand. Asus preferably

2. Budget. Below 2k if possible

3. Specs. A min 512MB graphic card and at least an Intel i5 first gen

4. Size. 14 inches

Actually is there a really big diff with the 1st gen and 2nd gen processors?
*
The amount of VRAM on a GPU doesn't justify the performance nod.gif
Closest would be:
Acer Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2199[2.3kg], 3 years local limited warranty
Acer Aspire 4755G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2299
Asus A43Sj, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT520M@RM2249, Color: Black
Dell Inspiron 14, i5-2410M + AMD HD6470@RM2099
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2349
Toshiba Satellite L645-1169/70/71, i5-480M + ATI HD5650@RM2299, 2nd & 3rd year warranty

SB processors basically have higher clocks and a better integrated GPU, at the same level of power consumption as 1st gen Arrandale

Alright, any other options other than Asus? Also, any recommendation of anything a little lighter?
*
Lighter 14" laptop at that budget? Nope laugh.gif
Unless you want to go for smaller size laptop lo...
Recommended Asus because of the 2 years international warranty nod.gif

That is the discounted price brows.gif
Hence after bargaining, chances are that you'll get RM2149 for the A43Sj you wanted laugh.gif

A43SJ - VX 259 V

only appear in product guide, cant see in my price list
~quit weird with this model , spec seem like worst than A43sv , but price same-_-"
*
Well, the price is not the same in the product guide, where the cheapest A43Sv is still RM2349 nod.gif
Yeah, Asus's product guides had been quite weird ever since the last PC Fair, where all the products are upped by RM100.... until now still don't want to decrease. Hence I've no choice but to follow the RRPs stated there sweat.gif

Haha then how to justify to myself which one to buy..i think i should stop looking at other brands or i wont be able to decide which laptop to get.. sad.gif
*
Don't be too focused on the CPU and GPU and you'll be alright nod.gif
The most important thing is to go for the laptop that you like most, not necessarily the one that is most bang-for-buck smile.gif
Hence, you might want to check out the real models and test them 1st before making the final decision

i bought the 5110,it stated there genuine w7 homepremium, but the delivery does not include win 7 CD. is it ok? just came back and check the delivery but the dell online chat already close.
i only have the driver and utility CD, is this normal?
*
Yeap, its normal.
Anyway you can burn your own copy of the W7HP disc yourself by using Dell's backup and recovery manager nod.gif
But do take note that you can only burn it once...

can you state the recent market price for that? rclxms.gif
I forgot to mention that I'm not looking for any acer/Hp brand but Hp is still acceptable.

Not sure whether this promotion is really valid or not, still, you might wanna check it out: http://www.nt-pcstore.com/it/product.php?id_product=578 [credits to budakdegilz for sharing] notworthy.gif
If it really comes with 3 years warranty, it'll be worth it nod.gif

If not, Dell M102z would be better because of the slightly better specs

Haha ive actually narrowed down my choice to tge inspiron 14r(4110) and the vostro 3450 (with i5)..first i thought the vostro was lighter or smaller. Turns out its the same dimension as the inspiron..weight also same..

So my solution?call dell and ask them to explain to me what the vostro has that the inspiro doesnt..is a matt screen worth the extra ill be paying..

Btw there is a dell store in mid valley?i can check out the physical units there?
*
Not just a matte screen haha... the whole laptop is in matte wub.gif
There's a fingerprint reader as well if you fancy that laugh.gif
Vostro units are quite rare... as in most retails stores don't display them, not really sure why haha...

Best bang for buck: HP Dv6 because of the much better GPU.
The others are more or less the same in terms of performance, hence it all boils down to which design you like more and whether you want the better speakers or not etc. nod.gif

thanks bro..

oh.. ok
AMD HD6770 > Nvidia GT540M

a few question bro..

during purcahing for hp dv6 can we uprgade to 8MB RAM..?
which one from the list  really catchin ur eyes in term of design and quality...
*
Sure, why not? Upgrading RAM is quite easy laugh.gif
But you need to check out how much RAM does the laptop originally come with... if its 2x2GB... you might need to sell off/bargain with the shop ppl and change to 2x4GB RAM instead nod.gif

Design and looks depends on personal preferences one since different ppl has different taste...
If you ask me, I would prefer HP Dv6, Asus N53sv and Dell XPS 15
You can also consider Samsung RC530, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT540M@RM3199 too

Toshiba Satellite L745-1050X, i3-2310 + Nvidia GT525M@RM1999, 2nd & 3rd year warranty
