First TQ lots.

Erm, asus U series have how long battery life?

What about asus A series battery and price?

And Acer timelineX got model around 2k?
*
Battery life varies from model to model. Generally, the advertised battery life for U series is 8-10 hours

Again, A series offers a wide range of models, in which the A43Sj, iinm, was able to achieve 4.5-5 hours because of the larger capacity battery... Not very sure about this though, better double check ^^
14"
Acer TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499[2.2kg]

Rumor has it that the 13" Acer 3830Tg (i3-2310M + Nvidia GT540M) would be priced at RM1999, but then until now we haven't see it on Malaysian shores yet sweat.gif

^ Not applicable to all A series models of course...
Its larger compared to Asus A42Jz etc. battery capacity is the same as A43Sv, N43Sl etc. Do check the Asus product catalog for more details nod.gif

from the list, which 1 would be more stable and would like to know any models from acer or toshiba fits my needs? thx

Ops, forgot the one from Acer: Aspire 5750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB) @RM2399

None from Toshiba at that price range unfortunately...

From the recommendations given, I would say Asus A53Sv has my vote, because of the 2 years free international warranty laugh.gif

Windows 7 will significantly decrease the battery life, and will be laggier... explaining why the Acer iconia is less popular... sad.gif

Bro tj, should I just grab the Asus a43s or Toshiba l745-1050? I think if I really wan take i5 I will get a43sv. I guess I wont be using the laptop unless I am on the move, so not really need powerful but at least can run complicated solidworks or cadcam design. Because my friend Intel graphics totally cannot run lolz
*
Asus A43Sv is more expensive, but it offers better performance; with 2 years international warranty summore~
I would recommend you getting that one if you have the money to spare.
If not, the L745-1050 will be fine as well, with 3 years local warranty rclxms.gif

QUOTE(Kidicarus @ Jul 5 2011, 02:04 PM)
Hi, I'm looking for a notebook that weighs around 1.8kg that comes with a discrete graphics card.  It's for work and light gaming (cheap stuff that you can get off steam) since i travel a lot.

Recently bought one of those new Vaio S series (core i5, radeon mobility) for my wife, which fits that criteria.  Unfortunately, i'm not impressed with the viewing angles on the tft led screen - a lot of colour variations depending on the viewing angle.  Is there anything out there with a led screen that has the same viewing quality as those macbook pros?

I guess I'm just looking for more options in the 1.8kg category to explore.

*also apologies if i offend but the search option wasn't helpful.
*
Budget? Preferred size? laugh.gif

Might want to consider these brows.gif :
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2349[2.44kg], [6-cell 4400mAH]
Asus N43SL, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2699[2.4kg][Bang & Olufsen]
Acer TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499[2.2kg]
Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2349
Vostro 3450, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2577, backlit keyboard

My vote goes to N43Sl though hehe~

Well, the sony vaio that i previously bought was 13.3" which is good enough for work so i don't have to strain my eyes at spreadsheets.  My Geforce 7600mobility on my Vaio VGN-SZ (bought in 2006) that i use for work died this morning (and tbh i prefer the screen on my old vaio more than my wife's new vaio)

so criteria around 1.8kg, i5 minimum, discrete graphics solution, screen size around 13.3", good quality lcd/led panel.  Good for work and play.

Of course, you can consider Macbook Pro 13 as well (and MBA 13, Samsung 9 series too if you want) laugh.gif

holy sheeet that was fast.

Last time i checked macbook pro 13 had build in graphics though(which put me off getting it).. has that changed?

I'll check out your suggestions.. any indications as to which has the best displays?

And thanks for the holysheetthatwasfastresponse!
*
Macs have the best displays, though you can still check out the others, they may not have the best screens, but in overall they're decent smile.gif
The current MBP 13 (RM3k one) still runs on integrated Intel HD3000.. FYI, Intel HD3000's performance is on par, or better than Nvidia's G310m smile.gif

What do you mean 3D gaming? If you're referring to using 3D glasses, you won't be able to get a laptop capable of doing those at that budget sad.gif

actually a43sv is a looker, seriously speaking. I bought it because i am sold, especially for the aluminium on the keyboard side smile.gif decent performance and decent look, decent weight, i did try to lift u 14inch series, it weighs same as a43sv, i mean feeling wise, so i grab a43sv instead of paying more. the chiclet keys is what i looking for as well smile.gif totally satisfied, the speaker is too premium to pay for, i rather save the money and get gigaworks t20, which sounds way better and it is compact enough to tuck into ur bag.

Samsung Series 9 got an upgrade and price revised on their spec today I guess,

It's starts around RM4k before conversion with pretty cool specification.

I'm hoping for a more balance performance AMD LLano laptop rather than a mighty processing power Intel spec with around the same price.

However most Llano offering (not even in Malaysia yet) seems to be bulky.. Hoping for good battery life and <14" Screen Size.
