brand : any
budget : rm2100-2300
size : 14' or 15'
spec : reliable, long lasting, light(<2.2kg)
*just for normal daily use

here are some of my choices...
1.  TOSHIBA L645-1169XB/1170XR/1171XW @rm2299
2.     ASUS A42JY-VX195V @ RM2199
3.     ASUS A43SV-VX053V @ RM 2399
4.     TOSHIBA SATELLITE L745-1050X @ RM2099

* or any other better choices, please suggest to me. thanks..

i am in dilemma now..
1. with the same price, i3 2nd generation VS i5 2nd generation
2. NVIDIA VS ATI graphic card
*
Since you're not into gaming, you can save money by choosing those with i5-2410M with no dedicated GPU nod.gif

Option 1:
Get this: Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999; then use the remaining money to extend the warranty to 3 years

Option 2 (abit overkill, but still okay):
Get this: A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2399[2.44kg], [6-cell 4400mAH]
or this:
Acer Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2199[2.3kg], 3 years local limited warranty
Dell Inspiron 14R, i3-2310M + AMD HD6470@RM2049, Free 2nd year warranty: expires 9 June
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2249, Free 2nd year warranty: expires 9 June

which place best to hunt for laptop? lowyat plaza?

If you don't mind buying online, Garage Sales would be the best place to buy a laptop nod.gif
If not, just try the large stores in LYP rclxms.gif

thanks for ur suggestion..
but i would prefer laptop with graphic card (ATI, AMD or NVIDIA)..
so how about TOSHIBA SATELLITE L745-1050X @ RM2099 if compare with TOSHIBA L645-1169XB/1170XR/1171XW @rm2299 and ASUS A43SV-VX053V @ RM 2399?

and if lenovo, how about Lenovo V470 -i7 @RM2599 compared with G470 -i5 ?
*
Ya, these are good: Toshiba Satellite L645-1169XB/1170XR/1171XW, i5-480M + ATI HD5650@RM2299, Colors: Brown/Red/White
But you might want to fork out some money to warranty cover this laptop nod.gif

V470 doesn't have a dedicated graphic card and is out of your budget. On the other hand, the G470 is quite good in terms of specs and warranty:
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + AMD HD6370@RM2299, 2 years on-site warranty

Again, you can consider these as well:
Acer Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2199[2.3kg], 3 years local limited warranty
Dell Inspiron 14R, i3-2310M + AMD HD6470@RM2049, Free 2nd year warranty: expires 9 June
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-2410M + AMD HD6630@RM2249, Free 2nd year warranty: expires 9 June

N55SF, not my cup of tea. Looks like Asus is going for pseudo-unibody construction now.

If they changed the keyboard and made a 14" version, that would pique my interest.

Its not like Asus to just offer N5X and N7X... I'm sure there'll be a 14 incher as well wub.gif

QUOTE(Sylf @ Jun 2 2011, 08:09 AM)
guys i'm facing a dilemma of whether to buy

1) laptop with 17inch screen or more

OR

2) 11 - 13 inch laptop with external monitor

i use my laptop mainly just to watch videos. but i do play games like dota, those low demanding games.

do u guys know any laptop with large screen but low spec? i checked out dell vostro 3750 but the resolution is only 1600 x 900. i'm looking for full HD. i'm worried that dell vostro can't play 1080p video.

whether or not a computer can play 1080p video is depend on the graphic card or the monitor resolution? can clarify for me? sorry i'm really a newbie at this.

the 17 inch alienware laptop cost a lot.

i dunno anyone who travel around with large external monitor. is it a dumb idea to do so? i mean can external monitor be carried around in a laptop bag?

dun flame me pls
*
How do you plan to put the external monitor in a laptop bag? laugh.gif
The Vostro is no weakling, its capable of doing all the things you said, with no sweat at all laugh.gif
If you're going for a 17" laptop, the Vostro is the cheapest around already nod.gif

about 2 years ago i downloaded a 720p video and i tried to play on my old computer + monitor and all i get is lagging video.

Even a cheap sub-RM1.5k laptop (AMD E-350) can play FullHD videos hmm.gif
No worries there haha~
You can always try playing on some of your friends' laptops if you're still not convinced laugh.gif

Dear all,

Need you help in buying a laptop.

Price: RM2k & below

Brand; no specific

Specs: for web browsing, MS office use etc.......
*
If no gaming whatsoever, then:
14" Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999
14" Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999[2.3kg]

If want as cheap as possible, then:
Acer Aspire 4253, AMD E-350 + AMD HD6310@RM1499[2.3kg], W7HP
Asus K43U, AMD E-350 + AMD HD6310@RM1299[2.6kg], W7S, [6-cell 5200mAH]

All these would be able to handle your usage e.g. web browsing, MS office.

the laptop is for a friends's friend so I don't know what he plays, so i just put light gaming hoping to see a best performance to price ratio

The 4830Tg suggested by fJok3R is a good choice~
Apart from that, you can consider Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2199[2.3kg], 3 years local limited warranty; its gaming capabilties are not as good as that of the 480Tg, but then if your friend doesn't game, it doesn't make a difference haha laugh.gif The 3 years warranty will come in handy~
But for me I would still go for the 4830Tg, too poisonous haha

Hi Guys,

I'm looking for a 13/14" laptop for word processing, some minor photoshop (not often), and fb game.

Anything that is thin, light, long battery hours, and not more than RM2K to recommend? Thanks!

Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999[2.3kg]
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999

These should be the best nod.gif

Hi guy, need your recommendation here.

1. Brand = Any
2. Budget. = Below RM 1.5k
3. Specs. = Best spec in Rm 1.5k range and has 3 years warranty.
4. Size. = 13" and below
*
Don't have, unless you extend the warranty yourself. But that'll limit your purchase to poor performance netbooks... sad.gif
Or you can consider this:
Toshiba Satellite C640-1023U, P6200 + Intel HD@RM1599, W7HP, 2nd & 3rd year warranty
But its a 14" though...

Any other alternatives to G470 and Aspire 4750? Same specs and save usage as M@ximus
How light is the G470?
What's the RAM given for G470 i5 + HD3000 version?
*
So far still nothing, but maybe you can check out the Lenovo Z370 as well hmm.gif
The G470 comes with 2GB RAM when stock

Since you have the budget, just extend the warranty to 3 years. For Alienware units, you can extend again even after 3 years.

You're from Kuching? O___o
N55SF would take a long time before its reaches M'sia, and it'll be expensive, might want to omit it unless if you're not in a hurry to buy nod.gif
