hi all,

been reading this since the first version but still extremely confused regarding rooting and everything even though ive read alot! sigh need more time to understand i guess, which is the easist one to understand and do? and also after rooting will the phone perform alot better than if i don't root it?

also, i tried to change the wallpaper on lockscreen but its so annoying because the picture has to be resized and then only a small portion of the entire picture can be shown, any advice on how to get around this? is there an app for that? saw someone few pages back had a full picture for lockscreen, how is that done?

sorry for all silly questions, but i'd really really appreciate all your advice!

aside from that, loving the SGSII, best phone i ever had, coming from htc and iphone 4 smile.gif

Rooting is not a must but it allows u to have a full control of your hp such as moving files around in the phone's sytem .... Easier way to put it , take SGS2 as a comp . Without root , u can only access a certain files in c:\ just like how u use a computer in cybercafe while with root , u have the whole access to everything in a c:\........ However , if u r not much into doing anything to customised your hp like changing your battery icon , font size , startup animation etc . . . . , u can forget about rooting as it doesn't do much

For wallpaper , get 1 that is for your hp's resolution . Your wallpaper will appear small as it is not 4 the screen's resolution . Try dling SGS's wallpaper . Another option to use your wallpaper of your choice is to go to makret and dl an app called "multiPicture Live Wallpaper " , once installed , look under " Live Wallpaper " .... From there u can set different wallpaper for your screen or u can load a whole album for it to change from time to time .

thanks for your help! smile.gif but i couldnt access the phone wallpapers for lockscreen wallpaper, only can access my gallery ones for it, very annoying!

my other gripe is that when typing a message in landscape mode i cant see the words that appear because its blocked by the keypad. anyone got over this by using another app or whatsoever?

talking about rooting -- anyone here knows where in KL we could get the 'jig' that resets the binary counter back to zero? Think it might come in handy if we need to send the phone for warranty claims..

this person sells it here in lowyat forum

hoping some people can answer my query:

other than verify using apps straight away, u can also check your root status by running terminal emulator and type in SU

if after press enter it shows # meaning you have superuser access and your device is rooted.

where can i access the terminal emulator from?

thanks!

even flashing the new updates (KE7 or KE2) won't wipe your phone..

just make sure u follow the right method when flashing the rom using Odin..

hmm for the email, i hv no problem add yahoo mail into social hub.. and when u say it wont work, does it means it simply refuse to sign in or what?
*
problem fixed smile.gif had to do manual setup and change a few things around, not sure why mine is so hard to add but managed to find a solution after googling alot, seems it is a dominant problem in the samsung galaxy s series!

also am i correct that to flash KE7 using odin, i DO NOT have to root my phone? mine is still unrooted and on KE1.

Added on May 26, 2011, 6:36 pmoh and should i be using ODIN or KIES to upgrade firmware?

i recall reading somewhere back in the thread that KIES is hard to use but cant remember if thats right!

just want to confirm, i only need to download the Generic XEU right?

no need to download the stock kernel unless i root the phone later on, is that correct?
