I'm guessing there will be very little benefit(if any at all).Won't speakers require vast amounts of current because they generally have very low impedance?

QUOTE(silver69 @ May 5 2011, 10:34 PM) dilemma on whether get myself a E9 or E11....since i got E7 at first....how TS will rate this baby compar to it's brother E9?? E9 is a desktop amp build to dock the E7. If you are using the USB/DAC function on the E7 and need much higher output to drive your headphones, the E9 is the way to go.Will open a separate thread for pre-ordering of the E11 by the coming Tuesday. |

Very tempting price tag. I'll wait for ClieOS' review before I cash in on this.

QUOTE(ClieOS @ May 6 2011, 01:13 AM) PC speaker already has an active power amp inside, adding an amp before it just make it double amp (and generally bad). What you need is a good DAC. tunertoobe, Agnaem & ClieOS: thanks for the reply. in this case, anyone know if the E7 is a good usb-dac? or I'm better of with the wolfson wm8501? sorry to ot. |

QUOTE(Honky @ May 6 2011, 01:55 PM) Yes, 2 level actually. The WM874x series (including the WM8740 in E7) is still considered to be best of Wolfson DAC. Though I haven't heard any DAC based on WM5801. |

WM8501 is a good DAC, I've tried it myself. However if you're thinking of hooking something up that might benefit from amping, the E7 will be a better choice. You can rely on the E7 as your volume control as well. Also, I think the E7 also uses a superior DAC(WM8740) IINM. Added on May 6, 2011, 2:29 pm QUOTE(E1 - AKG @ May 6 2011, 10:53 AM) OMG!! Hmmmm. but might collide with my Atrio purchase though...have to think this through. This post has been edited by tunertoobe: May 6 2011, 02:29 PM |
