The above disc are all incredible.

If you want to show your friends a more natural images (eg. NOT hyper real) I recommend Baraka

A documentary film, shot in 70mm film and was digitized using the 8K process (scan from film to digital storage media at a high bit rate and then remaster)

The result, a breathtaking blu-ray disc!

If you are really into hyper real stuff, another recommendation is King Kong (Peter Jackson version)

The Dark Knight shot with IMAX , you may play that as well, and i agree with Mov_freak. Baraka would be ideal..its an awesome blu-ray to watch..

I didn't choose Dark Knight due to it mix of PQ. The IMAX Sequence PQ is in great spectacular presentation but normal sequence PQ is just OK.

2001 space odyssey for black & white contrast

transformer 2 for colorful pic

Every inch of details while its running on IMAX scenes is just absolute mind blowing. Not just this particular movie i would praise. Take a look at Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen IMAX Edition as well.
Scintillating scenes.

I would also recommend Toy Story 1,2,3. Its flawless PQ & AQ. Disney titles are highly recommended as well. Thanks Mov_freak.

black hawk down was a really great soundtrack to demonstrate surround speakers...
the picture has a purposely grainy feel about it which accentuates the intended feel of chaos...some ppl see this as a flaw but it is what the director intended...

transformers 2 PQ also has an overly glowing and orange skin kind of overtone to the movie... which again was intended... but its definitely not natural...which doesnt mean it still doesnt look good tho!

agreed. thats why i choose the thin red line over dark knight for this type of thing smile.gif

for FULL IMAX experiences... have to go with documentaries... or the much undermentioned "IMAX: Super Speedway" movie

for 3D :
-Imax The Ultimate Wave: Tahiti 3D - the color & depth is the best i watch so far ( for live action 3D title ), the documentry itself not bad either.
- Despicable Me - Colorful & 3D effect really fun to watch, particular one scene when the rocket crash toward camera, you'll feel it almost poking into your eyes ! i've played that part to my friend & he was like " HOLY S**T !!!" biggrin.gif

for 2D :
-Baraka - beautifully flimed with 10/10 perfect transfer.

I would agree with Baraka anytime. Having watched it first time on big screen many years ago, it was thrilling to see it being transferred to bluray. Awesome stuff. The best venue for Baraka unfortunately would be in Imax theatre...

I would also like to recommend the BBC Human Planet series of Bluray: Here's the trailers...

Agree! I find Dark Knight is just OK only, nothing spectacular on it. The iMax scenes is nice but too little, the normal scenes just OK.

For showing off, those dark scenes can't impress people to give you "WOW!"

Up is a nice BD to demo cause its an animation that is in native 16:9 which fills up your screen completely....

shame to have two black bars top and bottom for 21:9 formats esp if you wanna demo the SIZE factor of your expensive 65" tongue.gif

oh and Up looks fab as well! smile.gif
if you have a good sound system then the storm scene is a cracking scene!

Recommend Disney's WOW World of Wonder, a AV Calibration Suite disc.

Can show off Pixar animation, stop motion animation movie and movie to your friends whistling.gif . Be side, can test your AV system if you have.

Beside, this disc also can help you calibration your system. 2 BDs can help you in lot of ways (of course, show off in many ways too + value for money in achieve so many objectives). whistling.gif Enjoy! tongue.gif

No sure this disc got 3D movie inside or not. If yes, even better.

Baraka for audiences nowadays may seem like just 'one of the many' documentary that looks pretty. But at that time it was groundbreaking indeed. I was awed by it for more than 15 years. In fact, I kept a video cassette of it (originally from UK) during this time, until now with the bluray version.

For the baraka lovers, actually the same team of film maker made another documentary after the success of Baraka, its called Chronos.

All of you can check that out. But its no way as good as the Baraka. Too bad.

Porn aside..

I mean for d family man.. tis is not a feasible subject matter to showcase to guests .. LOL [in private is a different issue la]..

Mos new catalog ttls are pretty awesome.. like Alice in Wonderland or d Pirates trio.. Animateds .. I dunno.. I like CARS..

Baraka is ok but as a docu it dont really serve a purpose.. I mean theres no dialog so u cant put 2 n 2 together n u ll be goin.. wheres tis or wats tat?? to me anyway..

More obscure n literally unknown ttls like :

1. Immortal Beloved..

2. An interestin if a bit unbelievable trait in a 50s ttl called South Pacific - its got super gorgeous colors n clarity n for its age its simply beautiful

D

it is not just the image/picture, u should consider the movi/show, BARAKA looks good, but if u got lots of kids around, i don't think u can play it for long.

besides, some "normal guy" don't ditch doc, they rather enjoy big explosion, u should mix,

eg. doc-BARAKA for green, PIXAR anination for color & kid, action for excitment, scifi for guy, comedy for cheer, horror for shocking, sexy bikini for eye popping, western for yellow sand, blue sea, etc.......

overall 90% having a great time and hands start itchy may want to get one 3D tv ..
overall 95% agree, if want to get 3d .. at least 50inch
50/50 debate on led and plasma ...
overall 65% , sound it is not so important ...
overall 95% asking whether can get the ahem blu ray , and whether download movies can be play on the player
overall 70% dont know what is region a, b, c ....

and it suprise me , almost 99% asking "it is clear and nice the pics with astro?"

I think for those crowd, just play them Fast and furious & avatar will do the trick. Try Sanctum or UP for the 3D effect not bad too I suppose (I don't have 3D TV unfortunately).
