Seems like the glue have wear off to me. Yes, even it's a US set, you can claimed warranty since it's officially selling here.

Any unusual holes should be considered as a defect. Try contacting the retailer that you bought it from or can also contact Apple directly for advice.

i just hope they dont accuse you of dropping your ipad and deny you a warranty claim

There is a couple of holes just like that all, but much much smaller, around the 4 edges of iPad2. Mine has a very small one on the same spot but not elevated like yours.

Seems iPad 2 becos it's so thin and light has become very fragile. Build quality no way as good compare with iPad 1. My 2cts.

With the ipad 1, I think they had screws to hold the screen down, but they did away with the screws and used glue instead for the ipad 2. Think there are a few other cases whereby the glass is coming away around the home button edge. Mine seems to have a bit of that too, like the glass can be squished down. But mine is on a black ipad so I don't see a black "hole", but i know its there.
